Herald St lantern 13 January '82 Learning Goes on At Hospital Too

COURT HOUSE - The In-Service Education Program at Burdette Tomlin Hospital continues to fill a void and is now in its eleventh year. "We're at the end of the state here," notes program director Dorothy Lovell, R.N., o'f Rio Grande, “and there really is no nearby learning facility of this typfe. The hospital has given tremendous support to this program, and the community response we have received is excellent." Last year the hospital of-

fered 143 programs and 10 courses, expanded from the previous year’s 118 programs and 7 courses. Thi?' year’s offering is agrfin being increased. LAST YEAR some 3,500 Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses, aides, ■orderlies and unit clerics participated, surpassing the 1980 attendance record of 3,313. In addition to the personal concern of many of the participants to keep abreast of new medical and nursing developments, a new state regulation requires nurses to take part

in continuing education in order to. qualify for license renewal. Instructors for the inservice program includes members of the hospital's medical staff and health professionals. Besides Mrs. Lovell, the teaching stiff consists of assistants Nancy Dougherty, R.N., and Candice Gianakopolous, R.N.’, head nurse >rif the Monitored Bed Unit; bothof Wildwood Cre$t.
