Herald & lantern 13 January *82 ; - Important Meeting On Keeping Farmland
COURT HOUSE - There will be an liriforjnation meeting on Farmland Preservation and Retention at 7:30 this evening Jan. 13 at the Cape May County Extension Service Educational Center, "Dennisville Rd., Cape May Court House. The meeting is primarily for farmers and farmland owners, but is also open to anyone interested in farmland
preservation. One of the major objectives of the meeting will be to discuss the proposed legislation Senate Bill 3497, The Agriculture Retention and Development Act. Robert-H. Bruchs, coordinator of Rural Resources, and Donald Applegate, manager of the Farmland Retention Program of the N.J. Dept, of Agriculture, will be on
hand to thoroughly discuss the proposed legislation which will implement the $50 million Farmland Retention Bond—pased on Nov. 3 by a large majority of voters, both in Cape May County and throughout New Jersey. The speakers will then hear comments from the audience. Similar meetings are being held in many counties throughout the state and the consensus of the responses at the grassroots level will help to mold the proposed legislation into a workable legislative act to implement farmland preservation. “There are few public policies in the past several years that have been as important to farmers and landowners and the long term future of agriculture then the topic of Farmland Retention, if accomplished in the correct manner,'' stated senior county Agricultural Agent John MacLeod, in urging all farmers and farmland owners to attend tonights meeting.
