^read like a Who's Who of Coast Guard and Auxiliary officers, past and present,
and included:
Adm John Steinmetz. USCG (ret.) of Cape May. Cpt, William Russell, commander of the Training Center; Cmdr. IJavid Gemmell of Cape May Air Station; Lt Steven Brantner, commanding officer of Cape May Station; C\V4 Wayne ►Carlton of the Air Station and liaison for Auxiliaries in the Third District (Southern); John Richardson of Villas, outgoing captain of Division 8; Los BFeberbach Sr., newly elected commander of the Wildwood Auxiliary. DURING THE ceremonies, outgoing Cape May Flotilla Cmdr. Lincoln received both the Flotilla Flag and the past Div. Commander’s Flag. He, in turn, presented his successor on the Flotilla level with a large leatherlike bag for carrying the paperwork associated with the position. The bag waS hand decorated (by Mr. Lincoln and his. oldest daughter Beth) with the rtames of the new commander and past commanders from both the flbtilla and division, and the name of the flotilla’s only honorable life member. John Heikle of Cape May, a retired Coast Guardsman who became involved in the Auxiliary in the ’40s and was among those responsible for the acquisition of the Yacht Ave. headquarters. SOME so members, guests, and friends attended the ceremonies. During -the evening the various speakers noted the ne°d for an active Auxiliary, especially in current times during the bqlt tightening of Coast Guard allocations. One-third of the cases dispatched by the Coast Guard in this area are handled during the hectic summer season by the Auxiliary—a feat of no small proportions when it is considered that the U.S. Coast Guard out of Cape May is virtually tied with a unit in California as (he busiest search and rescue unit in the nation when it comes to aiding the commercial and, especially, recreational boating interests.
