Farmers Week’s Events

TRENTON - Hundreds of farmers and other agriculturalists are expected to attend more than 20 events, including the State Agricultural Convention and the New Jersey Marketing Institute, during .the tilth New Jersey Farmers Week. Jan. 23-30. The state's major agricultural organizations and groups will conduct seminars, meetings and' conventions throughout the state, while others convene the weeks before or after Farmers Week. ORGANIZATIONS such as tlte State Board of Agriculture, the Pesticide Association of New Jersey, the New Jersey Beekeepers Association, the Garden State Dairy Goat Association, and the New Jersey Farm Bureau will meet during Farmers Week, while representatives of the state's horse and vegetable industries meet the preceding Week

The Garden State's most accurate school-age spellers will compete in the State Grange Spelling Bee Friday, Jan. 29. and the main lobby of the Cherry Hill Inn, Cherry Hill, will take on a country fair atmosphere at the Queen s Court Reception and Country Fair. Tuesday. Jan. 26. THE 76th STATE Agricultural Convention, which o f ficially begins 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at the Cherry Hill Inn. will feature award presentations for distinguished Service to Agriculture, and to the state board's 1981 Outstanding Young Farmer. Governor-elect Thomas H. Kean, who will be sworn in Jan. 19. has been invited to address the delegates. In addition, delegates will have an opportunity to debate such farm-related issues as the Pinclands regulations, farmland preservation, the rigbt-to-

"There are new technical people, elected and appointed officials coming into these municipalities all the time." Vinci said. "They have beeo propeljed into this project at midstream without the background knowledge through no fault of their own. This dialogue I am suggesting would bring the technical people together and funnel information back to the newly elected or appointed municipal oF ficials "IT IS incumbent on the MUA to provide Mp participants wit^ an understanding of the project; the direction we are taking, and the effects of various phases We want to work toward familiarizing the technical personnel and one v6ry important way to do this is to conduct work sessions during the day with our technical staff "Public understanding is important," Vinci continued.
