from 1981. . Under the 14.1 million budget increased by the Township Committee Feb. 4, the ' local tax rate will remain at 19 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Mayor Samuel DeVico attributes the township’s ability * to avoid a tax increase to some $326,000 ■ earned last year thru investments and an additional $280,000 acquired thru state gross receipts taxes. Condo Concessions SEA ISLE CITY - The Zoning Board of Adjustment has granted three variances that will make way for the construction of ah 18-unit condominium at 93r(l St. and the beach. Although more than 50 reisdents — most opposing the project - attended the hearing, variances for use, height and lot coverage were granted Feb. 2-to owners of the Polaris Motel property, Vincent and Margaret Archetto of Vineland. The units — to sell for between $170,000 and $350,000 will be built in a marine commercial zone, an area designated for no multi4family dwellings. The condo will also exceed the permitted 40-ft. height limitation by 5 ft. and the standard 40 per , cent lot-coverage by some 4 per cent. Says Formula Bad CAPE MAY — City Manager Fred Coldren is seeking legislative support to change the formula used in apportioning operating costs among constituent towns in regional school districts. The current formula is based on equalized valuations, but Coldren believes a more equitable approach would be td spread the costs on the basis of how many students attend from each district. He terms "ill-conceived and discriminatory" the formula requiring Cape May to support almost 30 per cent of the Lower Cape May Regional School District budget when only 17 per cent of the students are from this city. Pool Guards Due WILDWOOD — Motel owners here with pools are going to have to hire lifeguards and test pool water once a week from July 4 thru Labor Day under a new ordinance introduced by City Commission The ordinance is required by the state Department of Health and calls for motel pools of less than 1,000 sq. ft. to be protected by lifeguards with basic lifesaving certificates and training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Larger pools must have guards with advanced lifesaving certificates, CPR and first aid training. Water tests — currently required once a month — must be made once a week during the peak season. Rate Hike OK’d NEWARK — The state Board of Public Utilities Feb. 5 granted New Jersey •Water Co. sewer rate hikes that are expected to increase sewer costs in Ocean City between 58 to 321 per cent. Increases will be felt most sharply by large-volume consumers, whose greatest concentration of water use is in summer. The increase — reflecting the annual cost of the county MUA’s regional' sewage treatment system — is expected to increase the sewer rates for a singlefamily dwelliitg by about 76 per cent. The formula — strongly opposed by local hotel, motel arid restaurant owners at a public hearing Jan..26 — is intended to see that summer residents bear an equitable share of the costs of providing improved sewage treatment. Revaluation Now WILDWOOD CREST - Real estate reassessments conducted by representatives of Appraisal Surveys Inc. of Cherry Hill are scheduled to begin later this month, to become affective in 1983 The County Board df Taxation has directed the revaluation because the community's 1981 average sales ratio for all properties was only 66.75 per cent. A reassessment is required whenever property values indicated on tax rolls drop below 85 per cent of real market value. 3 Die; 6 Months COURT HOUSE - John W. Owens of

Boat Ramp
(From Page l) ramp to be developed Somewhere in the township was first raised at the December meeting of the Mayor’s Advisory Board by North Cape May resident Harry O'Donnell. "A RAMP IS SOMETHING we should have here," he said, pointing to the excellent municipal boating facilities provided at 81st St. in Stone Harbor. "It would be great for business," he added. Although no definite site for the project has been chosen, the corisensus of the Advisory Board is that tht? areas near the ferry and Wissahickon Ave. (on the north side of the canal) would be most feasible in terms of providing adequate parking space and easy access tq the \yater. "Wherever you put it tramp.), .you need lots of parking," boarid member Peg Spencer noted. SUPPORTING THE IDEA of establishing some kind of public boat launching facilities, Mayor Clydesdale sent a letter to Congressman William Hughes on Dec. 8 requesting the proper procedure to follow for obtaining permission to construct such facilities alobg a government controlled waterway. The congressman forwarded the letter to thfe DEP for its consideration. The Mayor wfcs notified of this action Feb. 2. "I was' very pleasted to get the response,” Mr. Clydesdajesaid noting that it had been two months since he wrote his initial letter. Commenting on his next course of action, the mayor told his advisory board he plans to pursue the DEP’s recommendtions and request a joint meeting with local officials and represen tatives of both the state Bureau of Coastal Project Review and the Army Corps of Engineers.
