Drab Walls ‘Uninspiring’

ERMA — A surprise in-/ spection of . Lower Cape May Rdfc>nal>facilities by schoolboara members revealed district boildings and grounds appear to be in fairly good condition. But board member Stephen Todd told'the full board Jan. 28 he observed more student activity in the high school hallways while classes were in session then should be tolerated. '■ ‘‘I was disappointed/’ he said, emphasizing he had expected to see less activity in the hall — and more students in the classroom since a new attendance policy went into effect this year making class attendance mandatory for obtaining high school gradua-

tion credits.

THE MEMBBX also indicated he feels the high school hallways are “uninspiring," suggesting that perhaps art classes could provide some kind of

decorations.

“The halls are not cheerful,” he said.“(Mirer schools I’ve been in are

cheerful.”

Board member Arlene MacDonald, who also par-

ticipated in !“

commented she would like to see more trash receptacles in the student smok ing area. “THE KIDS should police the area,” she said, adding that school personnel shouldn’t be required to clean-up cigarette butts thrown on the ground. MacDonald remainded board members and administrators that the Smoking area is a "privilege" and if misused will have to be revoked. A&ording to Buildings and Grounds Committee chairman Delton Brooks^ more unannounced inspections at both the high school and Teitelman jr. high can be expected. A list of board; suggestions for possible areas of improvement compiled from tht recent January inspectidn — has been forwarded to school officials for their review.
