Favor Fee Hike OCEAN CITY^- City Council last week approved the idea of increasing local mercantile license fees to provide more revenue for city advertising. The proposal would raise fees by 50 per cent or a maximum of *50, and increase the city’s advertising budget by about $40,000, Revenue would be distributed by a separate authority. Legislation must be passed allowing mercantile revenue to be used for such things as advertising. Both State Sen. James Hurley and Assemblyman Guy Muziani have indicated they will introduce the necessary legislation. Reject Petitions WILDWOOD CREST - Petitions opposing a municipally-created beach fee here were once again rejected last week by local officials, who believe the documenyiled to comply with legal provisions! Acceptance of the petitions would have set the stige for a referendum on a free beach ordinance — a move Borough Commissions want to avoid since beach fee revenue has already been projected in the local 1982 budget. Tax Rate Held OCEAN CITY — City Council last week introduced $12.8 million budget that will hold the line on the municipal tax rate \ and maintain services at existing levels. \ Councilman Jack Jones dissented to the budget os presented, contending the city administrator's salary of $47,400 is too ’ high. The administrator's salary in the last year jumped from $41,430 as a result of a 9 per cqd* cost-of-living increase granted to all pity employees and a five per cent merit raise received last August. The city will keep its tax rate stable by using $1.45 million of its $1 9 million surplus available at the end of 1981 . y No Local Tax DENNIS TWp. - Township Committee last week approved a budget of almost $1.3 million up more than $200,000 from last ye'kr. McDonough, coordinator of Special Services for the Avalon Elementary School, is looking to fill his first political office. Police Pay Hike MIDDLE TWP — Police officers here will receive a 10 per cent raise this year under a one-year contract signed late last week Under the new agreement, each of 29
officers — soon to be increased to 32 — will work 40-hour weeks instead of the current 42. will have the choice of being paid time and a half for overtime or receiving credit for time off and will receive one or two more vacation days annually. Fired Men Sue AVALON — 21 public works employees fired in January because they wouldn’t \ work during a snow storm have filed suit in Superior Court to get their jobs back. The plaintiffs are requesting back pay and that the borough not be able to replace the men with other employees.
No to Concert' NORTH WILDWOOD - City Council last week voted unanimously to halt plans for a proposed largescale country western concert on the beach here later this spring. Council rejected a $50,000 bid from North Isle Development Co. Inc. — owned by co-owners of the local Miss Kitty’s Saloon and Dance Hall - to rent part or the beach for the event. The concert idea was opposed because of potential traffic and crowd control problems that could arise tfith the arrival of some 100,000 concertgoers.
