Licenses For 1983 Going Up

TRENTOP^ — jncreases averaging 20 percent in both hunting and fishing licenses for the 1S&3 season have t>een approved by a majority vote of the New Jersey Fjsh and Game Council. These increases, supported by the Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife, have been reviewed by New Jersey sportsmen and are still subject to enactment by * the stale ■Legislature. ALONG WITH the proj posed increases, the division and the council are recommending legislation to provide for the adjustment of the license fees each year to take into account the rate of inflation.

This plan would take effect after the 1983 license fee in-

creases, if enacted.

Also approved was an all around sportsmen license which would permit a person to buy just one license for freshwater fishing, including trout; firearm hunting, and bow and arrow hunting, at a cost of $47.50. THESE LICENSE fee increases, the Division said, are required in order to continue existing wildlife and fish management programs. Without ah increase in funds, a number of programs would have to be curtailed, the division said, and there would be a reduction in personnel. The last license increase was

adopted in I960.

Following The Rules

AVALON — Because of increasing use of the Community Hall, Dave Haberle, director of recreation, has reminded residents that the rules and regulations will be strictly enforced. Among areas of concern is the looby, to'be used to read the notices, get drinks, and use the phone Food is not to be taken into

the rest rooms or unauthorized areas. GYM EQUIPMENT must be kept in the gym and it should be kept free of

litter.

. Only staff members may use the stereo equipment and use of the pool room is restricted to those 18 or older with a staff member present

The increases that were approved by a majority of the council differed only slightly ffom the proposed increases announced, in November. 1981 THE FEES WERE deleted for the proposed waterfowl stamp, and the proposed ' increase in the woodcock stamp. The council also retained the $10 fee for the special deer season, instead of raising it to$12.50. The only other change was a decision to raise the nonresident hunting license from $40 to $55. The original proposal had been to raise the nonresident fee from the present

$40 to $48.

The proposal to seasonally adjust license fees based upon the annual rate of inflation would give the Fish and Game Council the authority to adjust the fees (either up or down) according to the inflation rate as measured by the federal Consumer Price Index. This program would be in effect for a three-year trial period and would be a strictly voluntary decision made by the council. The council would not be bound to make any adjustments in any given year.

Tetanus (lodf jaw), and equine Jnfluenze. An dpportiinity will be available to have Wood samples taken for detection of Equine Infectious Anemia (Swamp Fever). Vaccinations against Rhinopneumonitis <a virus) will also be offered. An equine dentist will be on hand to check teeth and float ffile down) them if

necessary.

' John N. MacLeod, senior County Agricultural Agent, said that the cooperating veterinarian will be Dr. Robert Newman, BVSc; the cooperating equine dentist will be Lloyd Lose, and clinic coordinator will be Mrs. Margie Hermanns. Registration forms and information are being sent to all known horse owners in the county. New horse or pony owners may obtain registration forms and information from the County Extension Service Office, or by calling Mrs. Margie Hermanns, clinic) coordinator, at 886-9332 from 7 to 9 p.m.
