Survivors’ Tax Break In Works

•TRENTON - A bill recently Introduced in the' Now Jertey Assembly would eliminate state inheritance Uses on money and property left to surviving spouses. The purpose of the bill la to avoid “double taxing” the gains of married couplcis, according to Assemblyman Guy Muziani (R-Cape May ; Cumberland), who introduced the bill. ••A HUSBAND and wife put money aside all their lives and pay tayee along the way. When one dies, it’s not right to tax the surviving spouse again,’' Muziani said. Surrogate Robert Hentges agreed that the present system taxes the surviving spouse twice. Nine states in the nation have no inheritance taxes at all he noted. The bill, has been referred to the Assembly's Revenue and Finance Committee.
