. On top of that all four members are excellent vocalists who nearly always give enthusiastic performances. This is an extremely enjoyable record. and-ABBA show no signs Of letting up. I can hardly wait for their next album •s* '• *■ BRAVE COMBO are a unique band frpm Texas. On their debut album they combine rock and roll with polka musie and surprisingly enough the end result is quite successful. Music For Squares (Four Dots, Box 233, Detoh, Texas 76201), is a spirited album. Brave Combo have a lot of energy and they obviously enjoy what they’re doing. The future of Brave Combo bears watching, as this unusual hybrid of styles, could quite easily become a major influence on other bands. Brave Combo tfeserve a listen. LOU REED is back on RCA where he began his solo career, following thfe breakup of. the legendary group The - Velvet Underground, and his first ajbqm since returning is hl£7 strongest in years Reed's half speaking-half singing style hasn’t sounded this intense in y$ars and his material has plenty of depth. His lyrics are oncelagain hard hitting instead of insipid and the melodies eerie' and distant. Best of all, Reed has a tight group .backirtg him, making this record a complete success. Lou Reed's up and down carrer is, once again, riding high. v • ENGLAND'S The Record* have just issued their third album, Mu*fc On Both'Sides (Virgin International), and while it doesn’t match the majestic quality of their debut, it is more cpnsistent than the record just prior to this one. The Records combine both influences of American and British pop music of the mid-sixties. They- write hook filled tunes and sing them in unpretentious, airy voices. Most of these tracks could easily find (lit status if given proper exposure Any fan of The Byrds, Searchers. or middle period - Beatles should be pleased with The Reconis.!
