ONE OF THE BEST received season-extending events in past years was Lou Lambert’s Octoberfest in Wildwood Convention Hall. The good news is that the Munich-inspired festival will be back this year. Lambert is huddling with County Park Commission powers-that-be and will present the Octoberfest jn big, colorful circus tents-at the county park if negotiations are completed. . Locals who fondly recall the appearances of tv'sProffssor Irwin Corey will get a chante to see the comedian as the star of the new movie, Cracked Eggs. Ethnic events will be big bn the 1982 agenda with an Italian carnival, Ukra.iian and Polka Festivals slated for June, July and August at Wildwood Convention Hall. • • • THE CRESTS Bill Esher has been elected for his third term as president of the 4,000-member South Philadelphia High School General Alumni Association. 1982 WILL BE Wildwood’s best convention year in history. During the spring, the.Masons will convene here for ^he first time. Another* * newcomer just pacted are the Rainbow Girls, teenage female unit of the Masonic Lodge. They will convene in Wildwood for the first time, June 25, 26 and 27. Both conclave newcomers formerly met in Atlantic City. The Rkinbow Girls will bring thousands to the. HE FIRST SANG as part of a barbershop quartette for Jimmy Kane at Steve "Milky" Lawlor’k Red Garter in Anglesea and at the Mansion Lounge and Bob Binn's Fairview Cafe. Larry’s biggest break came this past week as he was picked for the opening act fdr Phyllis Diller at an Atlantic City casino. Another member of the quartette is achieving a measure of success. He is Jimmy Boyle, long a staffer at Fairview. Boyle has just opened his own barrestaurant, Triples, at Third and Bambridge Sts., Philadelphia. Good Shad. Run Seen

TRENTON-Theannual migration of shad into Delaware Bay has begun and it appears that this year's shad and herring run will be another good one for the fishermen. The Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife reports that commercial fishermen have already begun to take shad in the lower Delaware Bay and it is expected the shad will reach Lambertville by April 1. LIN CAMPBELL, manager of NJ Transit at Wildwood, anticipates lower gas prices will boom family auto travel to the Wildwoods this season. Whenever gas prices dip, bus travel dwindles. For example, Campbell recalls that last season he had to order only 60 extra buses on Sunday night to handle the exodus of bus patrons. When gas prices were higher, he had to order as many as 110 extras on Sunday nights.
