Huddles on Holding Down Tax

LOWER TOWNSHIP - Several ideas to prevent . any future huge increases in property taxes in Lower Township were formulated at a meeting this week called by Bill Hevener, a member of the Mayor’s Advisory Cortimittee. NORTH CAPE MAY - Two teenage girls were injured on the North Cape May Shopping Center parking lot last Thursday when the moped on which they w^re. riding collided With a

car.

- According to Lower Township Police Lt. Charles Thornton, Terry Layer, 14, and Janice Harpster, 14, both of the community, suffered undetermined- injuries when they were struck by a Volkswagen driven by Frank J. Tate, also of this community.. Both youngsters were treated at Burdette Tomlin Hospital and released. / THORNTON INDICATED that no charges were filed in the incident because both , parties involved had thbir view obstructed by the Acme building as they emerged from right angles. Although the police lieutenant indicated there’s no way « to prevent youngsters from riding mopeds on private property, he said Monday that, legally, until age 15 — at which time moped drivers must license and insure their bikes — they shouldn't be operating the vehicles., THE OFFICER noted that beginning next January, a law passed last January will go into effect requiring moped drivers issued a ticket for violating traffic regulations to be handled like other traffic violators iri traffic courts. Currently, he said, tickets aren’t usually issued to juvbniles for illegally or. carelessly operating 'a moped in order to avoid tying up the juvenile courts. "We don’t have a big problem with mopeds,” Thornton said, noting that may change.with the summer's arrivaf:
