Tuckahoe and Wildwood, the Wills Eye Hospital. Delaware Valley Eye Bank ami several Cape May County Funeral Directors The. dramatic announcement was made at a press conference held at Burdette Tomlin. The individuals who have regained vision did so as a result of an eye donor program recently begun by

the Lions Clubs.

LIONS CLUB‘rpembers Harry Wozunk and Jim * Pollizi joined hospital * administrator William Waldron. Delaware Valley Eye Bank executive director Gene Polgar and Funeral Director John Radziette in making the formal announcemeht of the eye donor program and Ihe first enucleation, or removal, of a donor’s eyes. Eye bank director Polgar v announced that Radzietta had enucleated two eyes during the past three weeks, .which were^then transported to the wills, Eye Hospital by New Jersey State Police. After a careful examination and evaluation .of the donor’s eyes, two successful corneal transplants were performed, resulting in the return of sight for tHe two

recipients.

EYE DONOR program chairman Harr} Wozunk announced that the recent efforts of the club in seeking donors, has resulted in 400 donors from the Lions Club "family". "We hope to secure #000 donors in Cape May County 1 duirag the next several moriths," stated the

chairman.

The director of the eye bank noted that the bank serves three states and had been responsible for over 5,000 people having their sight restored. Polgar ■ ' • "Over 150

When one considers that 90 per cent .of all transplants are successful, one—can imagine how, important this program is to, the sightless of this region,’* stated Polizzi.
