Scholarship Is Available OCEAN CITY - The local scholarship program of the . .Professional Engineering Society of Southern New Jersey is now underway, it was announced by Jeffrey^ P. Taylor, president. ' ONE CANDIDATE is chosen from each South Jersey county and all county candidates receive a grant from the chapter, with the outstanding senior getting the major, grant. Tyrone’ Thompson of • Ocean City High School »was awarded a grant in
1981.
High School seniors who feel they qualify ’should contact their school, guidance office through which candidates are nominated. Filing dates for applicants is April 26.
Persons who are planning to retire before age 65 should apply for their monthly Social Security benefits no later than the last day of the month they want benefits to begin, Del Brooks, Social Security manager in Wildwpod, said recently. Generally, benefits payable for months before age 65 can begin no earlier than the month of applicaiton. This limitation also applies to widows and widowers who will receive benefits before their 65th birthday. "HOWEVER." BROOKS said, “a person who applies for benefits after age 65 can receive benefit payments for up to six months before the month of application. Those who want to make certain that their benefit payments will begin’ on time may apply ag early as three mdnths before they want benefits to start."
