C. Eugene Mason, director of the Cumberland, Md., Parks and Recreation Dept, is director of the national mibs tournament. • • • DYNAMIC YOUNG promoters Bill Kelly and “Chtapk" Burns are bringing Uhe new Columbus pirate ship ride to Hunt's Pier. Wildwood has been selected as one of the world premiere sites of Annie, one of the costliest movies ever made. The story of the cartoon character, "Little Orphan Annie," stars Carol Burnett and was filmed mostly in Jersey's Monmouth County. The premieres are slated to benefit the Public Television Service. • • • ALTHOUGH OFTEN seen dining at Zaberer’s Anglesea Inn, few local folks realised that famed race car driver Mario Andretti had more than casual connections with this area. vestors in the Lower. Township Shop N Bag Plaza After seven years on the Grand Prix circuit, with only occasional ventures into U S. action, Mario Andretti is back.in fulltime comf>etition on the U S. Indy car series. He spent seven seasons as Uncle Sam’s most talented representative on the%vorld race circuit. ANDRETTI'S 19-year-old son, Mike, is making his debut in the Super Vee series which runs as a companion to the Phoenix Speedway’s Indy car events. We hear Mike is a talented wheelman. The Super Vee series is the new proving ground for future Indy car drivers. The cars are scaled-down versions of their Indy brethern, powered by souped-up Volkswagen engines. But young Mike still has a long way to go to match his dad's magnificent record and reputation. A BOARDWALK favorite of yore, Joe’s Pizza returns this season on Mariner’s Landing Pier operated by Joe Reed of Noi'th Wildwood. Duke Mack has already opened two of his Mach’s Pizza concessions on the wooden way. Mack now also owns a posh restaurant on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. • • » UP FOR GRABS by a retinue of Republican lawyers is the area appointment as legal counsel to the Delaware Bay Port Authority that operates the ferryliners and bridges. Among those being prominently mentioned is James Cafiero. The post is currently held by Wildwood's Charles Henry James, a Democrat, who was appointed during the regime of Gov. Brendan Byrne. The Authority has approved a million dollar survey of Delaware Bay, which is expected to be of great benefit to Cape May county water men, boat men and commercial fishermen. Very little is known of Delaware Bay, in contrast to Chesapeake Bay which has been carefully mapped, explored and exploited. TV ACTOR-director Carl

Reiner (the father of Archie Bunker’s "meat head" son-in-law character), sent vet North Wildwood lifeguard Mike Coogan an autographed picture of himself. Reiner, in an at-

tached letter, recalled days he boarded with Coogan family on 18th St Philadelphia. Carl plans to bring back the Dick Van Dyke show for a single tv special soon.
