Capo May. Our mackerel fishing should be going full tilt as this issue is published. NOW. ON - TO another subject: Rkndy I.audcman and Donald Roseman had a beautiful catch of shad from their nets in the Bay. and some nice sized weakfish on Wednesday. On Thursday, they had another good catch, and six good sized weakfish. So don’t be surprised to hear that somebody got a big weakfish off the jetties. The 1982 season is started, so get out there whenever you can. • • • I RAN INTO Bill Darling the first of the week. He’s getting ready to open his new Avalon Point Marina very soon, and as of this date there will be three charter boats working out of this new docking facility. the 4 Sail captained by
mm preti run by Cpt. BUI Darling Jr., and the Castabout skippered by Cpt. Eric Clapp. • • • AS YOU’RE reading this I’ll be down in HatterdS trying to catch a channel bass with Andy Grace, Charlie Cantz, Charlie Raff, and Robert Cantz. We’ve had some setbacks in our trip, because Bill Halbmner had to go back in the hospital; and Walt Ifendee and Joe MacGregor had to postpone their trip because of the bad weather that showed up during this past week. We’ll miss these fellows because their all good fishermen, but the show must go on. This Spring trip will mark the 25th year that the Cape May Co.-Hatteras Anglers have visited the Outer Banks in search off red drum, and every trip has been unqiue.
Well, my weather predic lions for Easter weekend held up, but the mackerel didn't really cooperate un til after the weekend The Big Jim had a good catch of . those Bostons on Saturday, hut had to go way down south hi find them His par ty had loaded fish hags, however, and that's what pays off On Monday the mackerel moved closer in Cpt. Charlie Selby of the Rain ' tn>w called me Monday night, and said they had had a very good day on mackerel SSW of FA buoy

he'd found large schools south of us past Baker buoy. All the boats hooked up and headed that way, Cpt. Ed Reilly on the Porgy // was on our starboard beam, and Cpt. Tom Roberts on the My Gai was coming along behind us. When we reached the Big Jim II all we saw were strings of mackerel coming aboard—so we went to
fishing.
JACK OSBORNE started it off by hooking the first mackerel, and then in turn we all started catching fish. We had a solid bat!'for over an hour with catches of two and three fish on at once. The big Igloo cooler I use for a fish box on the Janie T VII was almost full by the time it slowed down; in another half hour of slower fishing, we had it topped off. The Miss Chris II was inside of us, and Cpt. Frank Speigel had fish coming all the time. We wound up with between 125 and 150 Bostons, and they were nice sized fish. During one of our drifts we passed Capt. Tom Roberts on the My Gal, and everyone in his party was hauling in mackerel. I don’t know how many were taken Thursday, but I know that late in the afternoon Cpt. Al Delinski on the Big Jim called and said some of his party had caught so many that they were actually quitting fishing. The density of those schools of Bostons leads me to believe that we’ll have good mackerel fishing clear through April and in-
