Focus On Nuclear Threat

POMONA — As a part of Ground Zero Week, a nationwide week of nonpartisan, communitybased discussions and events designed to educate and involve Americans on the issue of nuclear war, the South Jersey Forum on the Threat of Nuclear War sponsored a variety of events at Stockton State College this week. Ground Zero Week was highlighted by a public meeting on Monday with Congressman William Hughes (D., N.J.), one of the sponsors of the “Freeze” resolution presently before Congress. LOCAL PROGRAMS addressed three questions: “How could a nuclear war start?" "What would a nuclear war be like?” and "What can we do to prevent a nuclear war?" The South Jersey Forum believes nuclear war to be a real and present danger and suggests that recent polls indicate 65 per cent of Americans.are concerned about the possibility of a nuclear war. Spring Dance • AVALON — Recreation Director Dave Haberle has announced an evening of dancing and socializing at the Avalon Community Hall 8:30 p.m. to 12 Saturday, April 24. Music will be furnished by the Russ Patrick Orchestra. Members of the recreation department will set up and decorate for the event and guests will provide their own refreshments.

Demonstrators will assemble at Convention Hall on the Boardwalk, walk down .the boardwalk,/and then proceed to Kennedy Memorial to listen to speakers and voice their sentiments about the threat of nuclear war. . ♦ In addition to its plans for Ground Zero Week, the South Jersey Forum on Nuclear War is urging church-goers to bring the issue of nuclear war to the attention of their congregations this Sunday, April 25. GROUND ZERO Week includes among its sponsors the American Assn, of University Women, American Lutheran Church, American Public Health Association, Americans Veterans Committee, National Counoil of Churches, National Association of Senior Citizens, National Educational Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Snyagogue Council of America, Union of Concerned Scientists, and many other religious, civic, and social service organizations.
