The tulips (tew li|>-uh) is of the lily family The name derives from the Turkish
word for turban, tu/bend, which the flower resembles

The tulip plant has only onb disease — Tulip Fire (Botrytis tulipae). It isn’t too prevalent bui once started, it spreads like fire. It usually appears as a result of a warm wet Spring. Initial symptoms include spotting on blooms and yellow shriveling leaf tips. It can be controlled if caught early. ••• i Tulip pests include moles, rabbits, mice, slugs, aphids, mites and bulb flies. Planting in wire mesh baskets and the use of napthlalene flakes can help protect the bulbs. ••• The leading American tulip growers are located around Holland, Mich, and Pella, Iowa.
