Florida Invaded By Villas-ites

“Who's minding the store?" That’s what four score and ten Villas Fishing Chib members and cronies were wondering while soaking up the Florida sun last winter. Isla del Sol hit the jackpot, with 44 registered. Earlybirds were Molly and George Barry, Betty and Jim Brown, Kathy and Bill tampbell. Fran and Fran Cunningham, Sadie DeBalb, May Tylbi, Ann and Jim Kllcoyne, Marie and Frank Magee and Jane and George Mooney; Kay and Frank Uhleln went to the dogs, Bebe and Chink Flanigan and Dolly and Batch Mam Inski hopped over to the flea mart, and Fran and Ed Scheffler and Florence and Chick Parker squeezed in several smorgasbords; Jule and Phil McCullough. Mary and Mike Mullery, Kitty O’Neill. Jean and Jim Schissler, Peg and Ray Blotter, Dot and John Witt and Florence and Danny were among those basking on Isla’s promenade. Edith and Harry Helverson got a special treat when their granddaughter Michelle Ewing and friend Lisa Rosalie visited, and Dot and Don Griffin were - hosts to their daughter Jerry and Bob Rorer. Nan and George Cole, rental agents at Isla, and Nan's mother, Dot Gilman, threw a wingding cocktail party for all their VFC guests. MEANWHILE Fran and Ab Brown were whiling away the winter at Indian Shores and were joined in March by Bette White. May and Jack O’Brien checked in at St. Pete’s Beach, Ann and Charles Rupinskl, Cass Shaw, Mary Stroble and Margaret Whitfield on Treasure Island, and Mae and Ed Erickson, Sadie Oocoso, and the Scotty O’Mays at St. Pete’s. Across the bay in Tampa were Marion and John •’Matt” Dillon and Peg and Tom Cross, and May and Art McKee made their annual trek to Lakeland. Heading south we found Sir and Lefty Gavin at Bradenton, Helen and Mike McCoy and Tess and

Charlie Lanigan at Siesta Key, Gloria and Bud Beardsley at Fort Myers, and the com pi eat Devinny clan also — Fraanle. Walt, Mom, Phyllis, George. Fran and Joe. Staying at Seminole were Ida and Charlie Reed and Cass Ferara, and Anna may and Tom Hanna call Spring Hill their winter haven. Over at Honey Vine Park in Largo were Mickey and Pete McCaffery. Rainbow Village was jumping with VFC’ers. Ann and Ross Wlnsett were there, Gertroe and John Anglin with guests Marge and Ray Gaynor, and Eble and Warren Kipp with siblings Julie and Earl Shafer. Never a dull moment! The Big Event of the season was the piCnic at Fort DeSoto Park, 78 strong; 45 at the Coliseum one evening; 40 at a Sunday jam session at Hank’s Seabreeze; visits to Tarpon Springs, Strawberry Festival, Sea World, State Fair, Busch Gardens, Wagan Wheel, Days at the Races, and a hundred Happy Hours! Temps were 70s and 80s with only two days of rain. There were plenty, of sunburned noses (better than frostbitten toeses). Meanwhile, across the Sunshine State we heard from Helena and George McKelvey at lauderdale, Ronnie and Elwood Hesson at Delray, Jean and Frank Legnbr at Deerfield,, and Rose and Herb Guttihann down at Key Largo, vity, guys and gals from the East, why don’t you chopchop over - to the West where the action is?) And as we go to press, it is rumored that Helen and Russ Jones have snuck off to Largo to look at a mobile. Who was minding the store? We suspect Ray Young and Johnny James. —Jeannette O'May
