LbWER TWP. - Claiming he was only heeding public opinion when he voted against the recently adopted $4.5 million township budget, Committeeman Jack Moran this week chided his Republican primary challenger, saying his recent criticism of Moran’s vote was indicative of his own insensitivity to public opinion. Referring to his opponent, Bill Hevener, Moran stated Monday: "It is quite apparent to me, that due to your opinion that the budget nvas acceptable as introduced, public input has no place in your platform." budget by saying he didn’t believe that "cutting needed services and then charging for them {thru contemplated user fees] was any kind of cut at all. A Rob Peter to Pay Paul attitude doesn't solve our financial woes." Also responding to an earlier press release from Hevener, Moran said he would soon be issuing a news release spelling out his accomplishments over the past 2-1/2 years. In the meantime, Mr. Moran launched a counter charge, questioning how Mr. Hevener, as a Middle Township policeman, would stand if the two township departments were merged, as has been mentioned by authorities from both municipalities. "COULD FAIR decisions be made by a man who is, at the same time, a Middle Township policeman and a member of the Lower Township Committee?” Moran asked of his opponent. "Where would you stand on police wage negotiations?" As to Mr. Hevener's assertions that Moran has voted to spend large sums of taxpayers' money, the incumbent officeholder said he has voted against “many large projects that were not beneficial to our taxpayers;" adding: “How can the public believe that yOu would do better, when you have already come out in favor of the newly adopted budget?" Mr. Moran also called on his opponent to serve as a model for local youth by helping to form a Police Athletic League in the township Arthritis Meeting Focuses on Children COURT HOUSE - An informal meeting to discuss juvenile arthritis in the county and what can be done about it vwill be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, at 107 Bennett Rd. here.
