New Gov’t Part Of Moran’s Platform

LOWER TWP. - Support for a change in the form of municipal government, a freeze on the present township budget, and the promotion of more, ratables here thru the appointment of a pro-ratable township Planning Board. These are three of the six planks in incumbent Committeeman Jack Moran's

platform for office as a candidate in the June 8 Republican Primary. THE OTlhjR three planks call forjtstablishing a committee of seniors and youths to promote “a sound recreation program" for the entire population; bringing "a new public transportation" facility for

Hevener: Moran Is Unaware

LOWER TWP. - Charging that Committeeman Jack Moran has "once again shown his total lack of awareness of the operation of Lower Township business," Bill Hevener reiterated his call this week for a debate with his Republican p^injaey oppo“He has done nothing since being elected," Hevener stated in a news release. “He has not fulfilled campaign promises and obviously has no new ideas for the future or he would be willing to debate. "I AM THE Republican candidate, not the Republican leader,” Heyener continued. "I have new ideas for the Township. If Moran thinks I am a puppet for the GOP leader, why won’t he meet me face to face, one on one, in a debate?” Mr. Moran recently asked how his opponent would be able to negotiate a police contract when he is a lieutenant in the Middle Township Police Dept. correction/ elaboration

Last week's editorial made it sound like the $5.2 million Lower Cape May Regional School District budget was defeated this year; it was approved by the voters.

transit between the Villas, North Cape May and Wildwood beaches; and starting a road surface program which in two years would enable purchase of an asphalt machine so that roads with a Hh-year life expectancy can be provided instead of the current oil and stone program. Mr. Moran has also called upon Republicans to support his slate of district

committeemen and women in the township's 14 voting districts in order to "bring some order and responsibility to the local Republican party.” ACCORDING TO the candidate, his platform was created and is supported by these 28 district committeepeople candidates. He cited as among his accomplishments in office listening 16 input from

citizens and moving to accomplish their desires. "With your support on election day, we,< pledge to report to you directly so that you will have a voice in the township government," . Moran said of his candidacy and that of his 28 district committee candidates. "ALTHOUGH A faithful, regular Republican,” Moran stated in a news

release, "I am being opposed by the so-called [township GOP1 leader because I stood up for what I believe is right." His stands, he stated, included opposing building the new township garage "on a lot which is too small," opposition to the 1982 township budget, which he believed too high ; and opposition to user fees : locally.

"AS LONG AS he has been involved in Township Committee business, Mr. Moran is not aware police contract negotiations are done by the Lower Township solicitor,” Hevener responded. "It is quite obvious he doesn’t pay attention to township business when he asks a question like that. Even after the solicitor negotiates the contract and it comes before the Lower Township Committee, it still takes two out of thrge votes to ratify it.” Continuing, Hevener responded to charges by Committeeman Moran that he wouldn’t be able to put enough time in township hall. "In my position as a lieutentent with the Middle Twp. Police Dept. I will be able to spend many, many daytime hours and in addition will be able to be available many nighttime hours," Hevener asserted. “There are many township citizens working days that can’t get to Lower Township because of working, I will be available to those people at night," he added.
