teeman Jack Moran. Mr. Moran indicated recently that depending on the legal interpretation both he and his primary opponent. Bill Hevener, could‘lose candidates from their respective slates. Both had filed full slates of 28 distinct

committee people.

"We were both informed by someone at the County Board of Elections that to run in the primary one only has to have the intention to affiliate with the party," the Committeeman said, adding that should Mr. Callinan have ruled eligible candidates must be members of the party, he would have lost six of his candidates and Mr.

Hevener three.

AS IT TURNED OUT. only Moran lost a candidate -s disqualified because of not living in the district fil-

ed to represent.

But local Democratic Pat Calfina she had been informed by the County Board of Elections prior to the primary deadline that eligible candidates must be members of the party. "IF WE HAD known a candidate only has to give the intent to join the party, we (Democrats) would have had a couple of more candidates." she said, noting that her party has only 20 district committee people on the ballot with Township Committee candidate Robert Fothergill. "The other eight will be appointed by the party the day after the primary.”

Mrs.Calfina said.

Mollusk To Seek Shadow

OCEAN CITY - This resort's relatively famous but pomp-crazed hermit crab will once again seek his shadown on the manicured sands of the Moorlyn Terrace Beach. Should Martin Z. Mollusk detect the slightest inkling of shade at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, May 13, summer will arrive one week early in Ocean City. If no shadow is forthcoming, summer arrives on time. THE RITUAL BEGAN in 1975 when a small band of visionary Ocean City enthusiasts established Martin Z. Mollusk Day. Despite an overcast morning, Martin managed to detect his shadow. The determined pilgrims planted a sign on the Ocean City beach: “Martin Z Mollusk Crept Here!" and left. The rest is history. Because of Martin's inclincations toward pamposity.the event has evolved into a dramtic escapade with impressive ceremonies preceding and following the shellfish’s creep. The Ocean City High School Band renders "Pomp and Circumstance" when the crustacean makes his flamboyant arrival at the beach. LAST YEAR Martin was carted over the boardwalk in a chauffered limousine. This time, he will arrive via dog sled pulled by a team of non-fish eating Siberian Huskies. Prior to placing his claw on the sand,,. Martin will view a dance tribute from the Hula Babies, a group of toddlers in grass skirts from the South Jersey School of Baton. Twirlers and acrobats will also "ham it up" as-the hermit crab watches from his elaborate wicker throne. PERHAPS THE most

dramatic aspect of the day’s agenda will follow the crab’s creep. It will feature a confrontation between Martin and Frank Hashorva, a Svengali-like school administrator who specializes in hypnotizing lobsters. Hashorva has appeared on Real People, among other TV shows, and humiliated lobsters putting them under and standing them on their

heads. The ultimate disgrace comes when* Frank sticks a toy umbrella in the lobster’s claw. Hashorva says he can mesmerize Martin. Martin says, "Noway, Jose!" Hermit Crab watchers are intently awaiting the results of this contest although Martin has been established as a 4-1 favorite to overwhelm Hashorva with his warm, beady eyes.
