I RARELY review comedy albums, but being a longtime fan of S.C.T.V., I’m glad to see the cliaracters of Bob A Doug McKenrie have a hit record with Great White North (Mercury). Those who haven’t seen them perform might find this difficult to laugh at, as the two, bumbling Canadian brothers ramble on about beer, donuts, and day-to-day life in Canada. But, those many who faithfully watch S.C.T.V week after week will be laughting non-stop. The album’s a hit, so is their show, and this summer they’ll be filming a Bob And Doug McKeruie movie. There’ll be no stepping these childlike oafs. By the way. Bob & Doug McKenzie aren’t the only funny and talented people on S.C.T.V., so don’t miss the show. • • « PRIMITIVE GUITARS (Editions EG) is an exciting release by Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manxanera. Musicians should love this record and find inspiration from it, as Manzanera proves not only to be a talented craftsman, but also a thinking musician, who constantly strives for new and different sounds. This is Phil Manzanera's most unique project, thus far, and one that promises exciting things in the future. A new Roxy Music album will also be out in the not-too-distant future.

THE SOUNDTRACK fbr the movie Diner (Eldftra) has some choice oldies by performers such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Dion, Bobby Darin, Fats Domino, Jimmy Reed, and Elvis Presley. Most of these are already familiar, but many have been out-of-print. Despite the fact the graphics of this record -could have been a lot better, this is still an album with plenty of worthwhile music. • • • BEATLESONGS! (Rhino, 11609 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, Ca. 90064) is also a compilation of different artists, but unlike Diner this brings together obscure novelty tunes written about The Beatles. This record is extremely funny and there’s not one bad cut. However, the best tracks have to be The Qworymen’s Beatle Rap,
Allan Sherman’s Pop Hatea The Beatlea, and Donna Lynn’s My Boyfriend Got A Beatle Haircut. Relive those carefree days of when the pop world didn’t take itself so seriously.
