Block Fete, Sea Shanty On May 15

* CKLAN CITY — Two special events will be held here May 15. A block party and spring festival is set for 10 a m.-4:30 p.m. in the downtown business district between 10th and 7th Sts. on Asbury Ave. A Sea Shanty Festival, featuring two of the world's leading singers of sea songs, is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Ter. THE BLOCK PARTY is free and will include a boat show, auto show, sidewalk sales, antique auto show, ethnic festival, and booths
with products and foods. Many center-city merchants will give free flowers to customers during the weekend. Continuous entertainment will be offered from 11 a.m. with gymnasts, karate exhibits and dancers performing at 8th and Asbury Ave. A Polish Bazaar will be located at the corner of 9th and Asbury Ave. THE SEA SHANTYy Festival will star Cliff Haslam and David Jones. Haslam, a Folkways recording artist,4aa well known performer at rolk festivals

in the U.S., Canada and Britain. Jones, an English singer, is now performing with a New York based Shanty group called the Starboard List and has several recordings to his credit. Both Jones and Haslam were members of a crew that spent a week on board a sailing ship at sea where they recorded "Songs of the Sea" for the National Geographic society. THE SHOW WILL be directed by Jim Albertson, president of the New Jersey Folklore Society, who will also appear in concert. Another highlight will be Theresa Pyott and Mary Zikos, two members of the Philadelphia based harmony group, the Liverpool Judies and the Sea Shanty organization, Outward Bound.. The Sea Shanty Festival is sponsored by the Ocean City Historical Museum. Tickets are available from the Museum, 409 Wesley Ave. Pancakes Plus RIO GRANDE - The Fire Co. is sponsoring an "all you can eat" pancake or scrambled egg breakfast Sunday 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. May 16, in the Fire Hall on Delsea Dr.
