CAPE MAY - The 180-foot buoy tender Hornbeam. the 82-foot patrol boat Point Franklin and Cape May Station, Coast Guard, will hold open house noon-2 p.m., followed by recruit graduation exercises at 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 14. Armed Forces Day Observance, May 15, will begin with an open house at the Training Center Dispensary, Gym, Chapel, Boat Docks and the Firehouse noon to 3:30 p.m. Also during this time the Air Station, Cutters Hornbeam and Point Franklin and Cape May Station will be open to the public. FROM 1 P.M. to 2 p.m. the Training Center Band will present a concert in front of the Administration Building. A Search and Rescue Demonstration in Cold Springs Harbor at 3 p.m., will top off the day's activities. The theme for Armed Forces Day is “Peace Through Strength,” not only through armament, but also through unity in our hearts and minds as Americans in pursuit of a common goal...preservation of life and liberty, in all facets of our everyday lives. THE COAST GUARD supports this concept in more ways than any other service. In time of war, the men and women of the Coast Guard serve side by side with members of the other services. Yet in peacetime the Coast Guard protects life and property on the nation's waterways, Fair Set At ACC MAYS LANDING - Atlantic Community College will hold its second annual Social Science Fair for high school students in Atlantic and Cape May counties 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19 on ACC’s campus here, The fair will include such team events as high school bowl (similar to television’i college bowl), and individual competition in cartoon-creation, exhibits, essays, a model press conference, a library race and a “soap box" public oratory event. Nearly $300 in prize money will be awarded to winners.
