COURT HOUSE - A significant aspect of the Senior Citizens Annual
Juried Art Contest and Exhibition Friday, May 21, in the County Library became apparent when a painting of a loc@l artist earned recognition at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton, last August. The water color, NonOlympic Skaters, by J. Anton Miller of Victorian Towers, Cape May, was placed on preliminary exhibit last July, at the County Senior Citizens Art Contest, where it was awarded a first place ribbon. THE PAINTING, along with second and third place entries, became eligible for the state-wide contest sponsored each year by the New Jersey State Division on Aging. Miller's work earned him the second place award in the professional class and a $100 bond. His water color and five other paintings hung in the governor’s official residence, which was recently changed from Morven to Drumthwacket, in Princeton. THE RECOGNITION
given to last years’ winning entry, provided another dimension to the contest and exhibition in Cape May County. There will also be a new entry classification of sculpture and woodcarving. These two art forms will not be included in the judging, which is scheduled between 1 and 2 p.m. This year’s judges will be Jean Hary Stake and Anthony l Hillman. The exhibit, on the main floor and the meeting room of the library, is open to the public. Any resident of Cape May County who has - reached the age\ of 60, is eligible to displaylpainting, sketching and graphic art. Entry blanks are available at the County Office on'Aging, Social Services Building, Rio Grande, or at one of the Senior Centers. Lastminute entries can be submitted at the library on the day of exhibit. For additional information, call the Art Show Coordinator, Roberta Brown, at 399-0774
