There’s a heavy metal revival taking place in England these days, and two of the more successful groups, Motorhead and (■IHbcHooI have just issued new albums in the States. Add to that a successful tour by Girlschool and Motorhead just starting one, and there’s good reason to expect both bands to equal their fame Stateside. MOTORHEAD have been knocking around the touring circuit and issuing records for quite sometime (this is their third afbum in America), but, until recently, few have taken them seriously. They play, loud, fast rock and roll. Unfortunately, for them, their lyrics are uniformally uninspired and the vocals are definitely an acquired taste One will either love or hale Motorhead’s singing Still, Motorhead have plenty of enthusiasm to save evpn the most mediocre material and they give their fans whal they want,, high energy

rock.

GIRLSCHOOU seem to have an added advantage, and^m not refering to the uniqueness of being the first all female heavy metal group. They have inf e c t i o u s material—especially C'mom Let's Go and Race With The Devil—and they have decent voices. Like Motorhead, New String Band In Big Parade SEA ISLE CITY - The newly forfhed Wildwood String Band will make its first public appearance in its new uniforms when they march in this city’s Centennial Parade 2 p.m. Saturday. May 22 The string band, under the direction of Frank Inverso, was formed last year, combining with the former Sea Isle City String Band and other interested musicians. In addition to the Wildwood band, the Centennial Parade will feature The New Jersey American Legion Championship Marching Band, ‘‘The Bonsol Blties”. the Palmyra String Band, the Ocean City High School Band, plus a number of other musical groups. Do-Si-Do All

COLD SPRING - A square dance will be held at Price Hall of the Old Brick Church. Seashoreand Academy Roads, 7:30 p.m. Friday. May 21. Caller will be Dot Wheeler of Goshen, and there will be refreshments.

Girlschool don’t bore listeners with dull, senseless guitar and drum solos They know how to keep things interesting. Both Girl school’s Hit & Run (Stiff) and Motorhead’s Iron Fiat (Mercury) merit attention from heavy metal fans, as these two bands seem destined for stardom.

A FLOCK Of Seagulls are a modern pop band whose album (Arista) has one % fantastic tune in Telecom municatlon. Unfortunately, the bulk of this is

uninspired and pretentious. Still, there’s potential here if they learn to trim the excess. A flock of Seagulls will please fans of Human league and Soft Cell. The reissue this week is by an obscure blues musician Johnny Shines. Country Blues (First American, 73 Marion St., Seattle, WA. 98104) is an impressive collection of raw, rural blues. Shines’ voice is quite appealing, but it is'his guitar work that’s truly inspired. A must for all fans of roots music.
