VILLAS — Following what Del. Michael Brogan described as one of the most difficult investigations, Lower Township police Saturday apprehended and charged four Middle Township men in connection with the May 5 holdup of the Marine National Bank branch here on Bayshore Rd. Three of the men — Michael Boyle, 21. of Edgewood Park, Rio Grande, Alexander Teufel, 19, of Mayville, Robert Clark, 18, of S. Railroad Ave., Rio Grande — were arrested when they returned to the county on th 0 Cape May-Lewes Ferry. The fourth man — David Boyle, 20, of Edgewood Park, Rio Grande — was already in the Cape May County Jail on charges of illegal transfer of a weapon. Meeting Shift W. CAPE MAY - The Borough Board of Commissioners has rescheduled its . regular monthly meeting to 8 p.m, Tuesday, May 25, at the Borough Hall, 732 Broadway.

Wildlife Art MIDDLE TWP. - Wildlife art in several media by students of Wildwood Junior and Senior High will be on exhibit through May at the Wetlands Institute, Stone Harbor Blvd. here. The Institute’s museum, observation tower, bookstore and nature trail are open to the public 9-5 TuesdaySaturday. For further information call 368-1211.

ACCORDING TO township detectives, all four were arraigned Monday on charges of robbery, possession of a shotgun for an unlawful purpose, possession of a shotgun, unlawful restraint, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. They were being held in the county jail on $75,000 bail. Detectives said Monday that some $2,763 of the more than $8,000 taken in the heist had been recovered. The rest was allegedly spent at casinos in Atlantic City. A sawed-off shotgun left at the scene of the crime has been attributed by police as the key to solving the first bank robbery to take place in the township in 12 years. THE GUN was purchased at Sears in Pleasantville, according to police. From there the owner and eventually the suspects were found. The investigation involved in excess of more than 600 hours of work — five detectives working on the case around the clock. More than 100 people were interviewed. Detectives gave the following account of the arrests. Police reeived word that the suspects — who had gone to Williamsburg, Norfolk and Newport News Va., after the robbery — were coming back to the county on the ferry, sometime Saturday. After an all-day surveillance, the men were spotted at a phone booth at the ferry terminal in North Cape May about 9 p.m. They were apprehended with no resistance.

THE MONEY, according to detectives, was found in mail being shipped to their home address, “With the cooperation of U.S. Postal inspectors we were able to recover about $3,000," they said. Middle Township police also helped jn the investigation. They supplied pictures and identification of the suspects — all of whom had juvenile records in their municipality, authorities said. The May 5 heist took place about 2:30 p.m. No

customers were in the bank at the time and no one was injured. TWO OF THE men - believed by police to be Michael Boyle and Alexander Teufel — entered the bank armed with the shotgun and demanded money from teller. They fled after receiving the cash, leaving the gun behind on a desk. Township detectives believe the crime was definitely planned, the motiVfe being the opportunity to grab some money.
