of the greatest soul singers ever to redord and we should be thankful Atlantic Records has decided to issue these previously unreleased live tracks Record Live (Atlantic) nicely captures Redding in front of an enthusiastic diidience. His warm, personable voice was full of passion and tunes such as Chained An(t Bound. I Can't Turn You Lose, and I’ve Been Lovin/s You Too Lon/t seem to fuel his soul. A great talent whose recordings still sound fresh and ex- . citing. Pick these up and find out why Otis Redding is a legend and why his untimely death has deprived, us of a truly dedicated artist. OF AM. T1IK British reggae groups. Steel Pulse is probably the most exciting True Democracy (Elektra) is a strong set of tunes, passionately performed. Although the lead vocals ften resemble Boh arley. the band’s terial is arranged to use rmopies to enhance the elodies. Steel Pulse have a lot to offer, yet their'music is easy enough to appreciate on a first listening. There’s MAC Show Of Quilts,

potential for Steel Pulse to emerge as a major force in reggae • • • TEN POLE TUDOR’S second album, Let The Four Winds Blow (Stiff) is a solid follow-up to their impressive debut. The tracks are mostly uptempo and infectious, with the drums 'usually setting the tone. Tenpole Tudor might not be the most original band, but they are fun and that sets them apart from most of the dross taking up time on the airwaves. IX>8 ANGELES Sparks have a fine new record with

Angst In My Pants (Atlantic). The songs still feature off-the-wall lyrics and quirky melodies of Ron Mael and the highly unique vocals of his brother Russell, but instead of the brash guitar backing which made their earlier records so exciting, Sparks now . have a more lush, keyboard soiihd. No matter 'Miat the music is like. SpaVks’ will always make people smile. A lot of radio stations are already adding this to their playlists, so afto- years of being cult favomes maybe Sparks will actually have a hit It would be nice.
