Plan Boat Parade For Safety Big Cape Foot Race On June 5
AVALON — A committee has been named and is'at work in Avalon to support and recognize "Safe Boating Week” sponsored by the Coast Guard Auxiliary June 5-12. The committee working with Mayor Ellsworth Armacost and Borough Administrator Andrew Bednarek includes William Tozour, Jr.. Parade Marshall; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Somers (Mrs. Somers is Commander of Flotilla 86); John Richardson, coordinator, Jim Aristine, and J. Russel Wtieatley. THE COMMITTEE will coordinate a borough sponsored boat parade to take place 10 a m. June 5. Tozour, will lead the parade of boats starting from the Yacht Club at Cornell Harbor, proceed Southeast to pass the Sportfishing Center at 14th St. and then west on the Pennsylvania Harbor to Ingees Thorofare. Cmdr. David Gemmel of the Coast Guard Training Center will be on hand with Mayor Armacost to serve
as masters of ceremonies. The committee hopes to have the Coast Guard band and a demonstration of Air/Sea rescue as part of the activities. BEDNAREK URGES the public to participate in the boat parade by decorating
their boats and displaying an appropriate safety slogan. "We hope to make this annual event in support of the flotilla's Safe Boating Week. A safe bbating coarse will also.be offered during this time,” he said.

CAPE MAY - Runners of all ages from throughout the area will reassemble on the beachfront here for the third annual running of the Great Cape May Foot Race June 5. This colorful event , is a 10.000-meter (6.214-mile) run at 9 a m., preceded by a 3,000-meter (1.864-mile) fun run at 8:30 a m. The race is co-sponsored by the city, Lite Beer, and the Washington Street -Mall Merchants Assoc. THE COURSE passes through the historical district, shady streets, and winds up with a run along the ocean front. Course records were set last year by Jack Kruse of Cherry Hill (32:25) and Mary Anderson of Philadelphia (43:03) Both runners have been invited back. Friday evening registration features an all-you-cancat spaghetti party with free beer. A highlight of the evening will be a special showing of Vic tor.ion Capers, a 30-minute
film of Cape May and its people The film contains footage of the 1980 Foot Race.
