The party given for students, their parents and senior citizens was called "Let’s get together and was the culmination of an idea of Frank Larkin, school guidance counselor, who believes "there is a need for all ages to get together, to share experiences and learn from one another.” It was really ah intergenerational dance sponsored by the Kiwanis and Key Clubs of Court House Serving on Frank's committee were Sara Brady (named "Senior of the. Year" by Stone Harbor's Chamber of Commerce) and Vernis Pilert. Superintendent Theodore Johnson welcomed us and introduced Robert Penkethnam, Kiwanis president and Mike - Webb, the Key Club prexy DOT WHEELER'S square dancers from Wildwood dose-doed the evening off to a merry start. I>aura and Joe Reese of Avalon demonstrated ballroom dancing; there was a fishing skit given by 92-year old Anna Hansley and Irene Nixon; Mrs Hansley later sang two solos and put "a few dance steps in to show the youngsters there’s still a l(it in life;” Donna Norbury
played a piano concerto; Paul Burnley sang a solo; Lauren Balliette and Kathy Commer did a tap dance; Bobbi Bryant, Paul Burnley and Todd Coolidge formed a singing trio; and later Bobbi sang a duet with Denise Ginyard; Following a full-course roast beef dinner, the Swinging Old Timers Band started a line dance with an Alley Cat and Continental, with the Juniors talking the Seniors into teaching them how to waltz and do the Charleston. Everybody got into the act and soon three generations were happily changing partners. FRANK LARKIN started the intergenerational move seven years ago whsn he had 800 stodents fill in a form about their interests and drives and surveyed 600 retirees in the same manner. Sinpe then they have given six t.v. programs and held many informal meetings. ^As well as being a guidance director, he iss consultant in Gerentology at Penn, and bRieves this is the first Intergenerational Program in this country and "will continue into the 21st Century." N ' 150 guests at the Kiwanis party obvtoQs^ ly agree it’s a great idea since the party didn't break up until the bandleader talked Stone Harbor’s answer to Ethel Merman info singing Shoe Me the Way to go Home.
