home is a statewide project sponsored by the Lions Club of Stone Harbor. The Lions have the inestimable help of their womens auxiliary, the Sea Lions. A dedicated group of women who work year round to see that their goals are met. VACATION HOMEis the fulfillment of a dream of

Harry E. Arader who had observed blind twin brothers playing with sighted friends on the beach.(One if the twins made 1 history recently by climbing a mountain with other seasoned climbers.) When we arrived, Ruth had gone off on an errand and Mrs. George Phillips took us on a tour of the house which accommadates 20 blind youngsters every week during the summer. y The home was purchased in 1970 for $50,000 after Mr. Arder proposed the idea to the Lions Club. It was converted into a 40-room residence and named for Helen Diller, who was also active in programs which aided youth. At her death, her husband donated a substantial sum to the Lions In her memory and they memorialized the residence in her honor. thing one sees is a 3-D painting of an enormous seagull so children can see with their fingers what they cant's see with their eyes. Below the flying gull is a title in Braille. Off the hall is a private chaple, a Braille Library, the office and a sittingroom.tWe discovered that these children, like all others are interested in sitting around the t/elevision set.) Beyond this is the spacious dininghall and an ultra-modern kifehen com‘pletly donated by one man. THERE IS Awonderfully equipped playground, and sighted local children stop in and play with the visitors. Five trained councelors have charge of four youngsters each. They take their charges to swim at the beach, play basketball, hike at the Community Park, to concerts, the fire station and even deepsea fishing on a private yacht. 200 children are accommodated each summer. The home is staffed with an adipainistrator and a cook, in addition to the counselors. The annual cost of the home is subsidised by the Lions and augmented by Signup by AOgust I. Call 884-4R95, -3488, or -2365 for information. The league is open to all youngsters df the Greater Cape May-Lower Twp. area
