"THAT WAS A GREAT time in my life," he recalls. “Not only did I get to see all of these stars perform, but my wife, Jennie, got in free, too." Barbo started his radio show, “Great Moments in Opera,” 14 years ago. It will celebrate its 15th anniversary in November. The show is aired over Station WCMC every Sunday night during July and August from 10:30 to 1J:30 p.m. In September it switches to 6:30 to7:30p.m. It features artists such as Caruso and John Charles Thomas. Each year, for two weeks before and two weeks after the anniversary of the death of Mario Lanza (October 7, 1959), Barbo plays only Lanza records. "Mario Drought opera to a lot of people who wouldn't have become attached to that music form," said Barbo. “More than anybody he stimulated an interest in opera among the public.” Barbo’s Frank Sinatra show now is aired each Sunday night

He’s a great artist. I’ve never heard anyone use phrasing like he does. His breath control, his diction and phrasing are impeccable." Barbo has no plans for retiring. “Just as soon as I sense my voice is going I’ll quit,” he says. “My voice coach says I’m doing very well, so I plan to continue as long as I can.”
In the offing this winter is a series of concerts in Florida Among them will be a return performance in Cape Canaveral. Barbo is the only musical member of his family. His son, Sal. and daughter, Angela, of Philadelphia, are charter members of his fan club, but their contribufion in the musical area is confined to moral support.
