Chamber ‘Beauty’ Contest Seeks Entries

COURT HOUSE - County Chamber of Commerce President Dennis J 'Curley has an nounced the opening of the Annual County Beautification Awards Contest. Nominating forms are now available for submitting entries ' All projects submitted for consideration must be completed by Sept. 1 for. judging and photographing. All nominated projects and sites must be located in Barrarks Bids CAFE MAY - The Coast (iuard will accept bids Aug 19 on a contract to construct a barracks addition at the Electronics Engineering Center, Wijdwood. Costs are placed at $250,000 to $500,000. A pre-bid conference will be held l :30p.m. Aug. 5 at the center.

WASHINGTON - The Senate expanded a package of tax and spending measures to add a proposal by Sen. Bill Bradley, D-N.J., that could clear the way for New Jersey to get its first commercial VHF television station. By voice vote without dissent on July 22, the Senate approved the Bradley proposal in an amendment cosponsored by Sen. Nicholas Brady, RN.J., during debate on legislation providing for tax increases and spending cuts in the 1983 fiscal year.

Summer Class Enrollment Up

MAYS LANDING, N.J. — Summer session enrollment figures at Atlantic Community College were slightly higher than last year’s. According to ACC Director of Admissions and Records, Ronald McArthur, the college experienced a two percent jump in enrollment during

Damper Put On Noise

AVALON - The June police report filed by Chief Josejfh Foley shows a decrease in noise arrests from the same period last year. The police department has cracked down on speeders, noisy tenants and dogs and individuals trespassing on the dunes.

The report shows 26 ..arrests for noise and 137 speeding violations, with 95 other traffic violations. Parking arrests are down from last year to 109. "Dune Drive and Ocean Drive are not to be used as race tracks." warned

New Paralegal WILDWOOD CREST - Local resident Kenneth Benner had completed studies at The Institute for Paralegal Training, Philadelphia, Pa., and is now e>nployed by Hawkins, Delafield & Wood, of New York, k.Y. Benner is a graduate of Stockton State College. He participated in a litigation course at the Institute.

RKO General Inc., which operates WOR-TV, Channel 9, in New York City, has offered to move the station to New Jersey in return for renewal of its license, which was revoked by the FCC two years ago. RKO General challenged thB FCC’s ruling in court and the U.S. Court of Appeals here has ordered the regulatory agency to reconsider the case. The Bradley amendment approved last March was attached to a broadcasting deregulation bill. Although the Senate passed that bill, the House has not yet acted on it.
