There's one thing I didn’t get finished in last week's column, and that was the story \ of the nine lb. weakfish I caught. It was full of roe, and that’s unusual for this time of * year; especially for that far up the bay. It's just part of the picture for this
season though, because from all I can hear, weakfish are starting to appear all over in the Bay. I stopped into "Rtifty" Chew’s Fish Hook sea food market in the Villas, and he told me one of the Bay fisherman had brought in 150 lbs. of weakie on

Wednesday, and then, “Cireg” Willis and Tom Repici of Court House were telling me that they got 11 nice weakies ouf in the Bay fishing with their wives. Cpt. Mark Elliott had about 12 weakfish the day we saw him. He was out there on the Gone Fishin. RALPH KNISELL. in his Angler's News column lists a lot of catches up around Miah-Maul shoal. It appears that most of the catches have been up the Bay. There are some nice flounder out around the Pin Top Cpt. ”HI’’ Thompson had some really terrific flattie action for his party on the Big Jim II drifting from # 10 buoy in the Bay to *1 buoy. In the middle of the drift they ran into a school of small blues, and one fellow got down a little deeper under that school apd caught a 6 lb. weakfish. Out in the Ocean Cpt. Tom Roberts on the My Gal has been hitting some nice flounder in the 20 Minute Slough off Cape May. Jerry Jerabek was out there with him Tuesday, and got five nice flatties while the rest of the party was catching 22 flounder; then on Thursday Cpt. Tom got 72 more for his party. I ALSO MISSED telling
two-day Stone Harbor Yacht Club Tournament was a big item this week. Cpt. Bill Darling Jr., who runs the Ryans Express, gave me all the winners, It was won by the ChrMie captained by Joe Ferraco. They had three whites for the contest, and they nosed out Cpt. Tommy Tozour on the Bertram 42 who also had three whites but caught them later. Steve Seggern of South Jersey Marina took a day off and caught a white on Aunt Belle. Cpt, Rill Darling Jrt also got one on the Ryan's Express, and Tom Brodesser had one on the Lazy Bones with Keenan Osborne mating. There were 32 boats in the tournament and they got eight marlin the first day, and fourteen the .second day.. 'Captain Bill said they had lots of marlin up but only a relative few were caught compared to the fish raised. He thinks the water is too warm, and this could be the right reason for so many finicky bill fish. HE SAID HE’D heard of a sailfish being taken in Baltimore Canyon, bnd that the fishing scene shapes up like this: Yellow fin tuna on the 30 fathom; marlin from 38 fathoms on
out to the west wall of the canyon, and big eye tuna from the canyon qn out <Cpt. Bill Darling Jr. is chartering parties on the “Ryans’s Express” out of Avalon marina and can be reached at 967-4004). Jack Osborne was flying a marlin release flag on the Red Beard - He and l^*n Verily had one for six on
Thursday On Wednesday he was Out with Cpt. Joey Drone a on the Lobster Hoase with Ed Monihan, and Ed had a large big eye tuna on for a long while on . 2ft pound test, but lost it when the reel gave out. Big bluefish returned during the day around 2PB and the night chummen were still producing.

you a shark story because there’s so much shark fishing going on this season that it’s hard to keep tabs on all the catches. The 723 lb. tiger on Cpt. Bill Garrison's Sea Mist was one of them, and this other one happened on the way in Sunday from the Bay Bill Bright and Phil Tomlin passed us and held up a big set of jaws When we got back to the dock at. Roseman’s we found out* they had caught six sharks that day — three tigers and three sand duskys, and one went 250 lbs. Andy Barber, who is now working at Whaler's Cove in North Cape May. told me that he and Billy Mulligan had gotten three small sharks last week that went 60 to75 lbs., and that they’d had quite a few big sharks this season I've missed a lot shark catches this year, because they come in so late, and it’s hard to get a handle on sizes and anglers the next day, but I'll have to catch up on shark fishing — because it’s one of the popular angling pastimes
in the 1982 season.
