BEESLEY'S POINT - More than $37 million in new environmental pollution control equipment will be on display at a free public open house to be held at Atlantic Electric's B. L. England Generating Station 10 a m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. Visitors will be given guided tours of the facility to see first hand how electricity is produced-Conser-vation information including free "home energy conservation kits" will also be available. THE 198.4 million plant was built in three stages between 1962 and 1974. It was one of the first in the natiorf to begin converting from oil back to coal following the 1973 OPEC oil em-

brago.

New additions to the plant include a $7.2 million wastewater treatment plant, and more than $30 million in new electrosatic emission control devices on • the plant’s coal fired units. MORE THAN 3,500 visitors toured the plant over two days during the

company's last open house at the power plant in 1979. The England Station supplies 420 megawatts of electricity for Atlantic Electric,” which serves more than a million people in eight counties of Southern New Jersey. The' plant bums 600,000 tons of coal, and between 1.3 .and 1.5 million barrels 4( oil annually. ^ A EANDMARHFat the station is the $7.5 million cooling tower built in 1974, the first natural draft salt water tower in the nation. It is visible for miles from the plant, which is located along the Great Egg Har--bor River directly across Somers Point. The latest addition to B. L. England has been the wastewater treatment facility, which went into service this month. The facility cleans metals and sludge from water that has been used in the normal operation of the plant, leaving the water in its natural

state.
