League Director Retiring
CAPE MAY- - Mrs. Helen Clark Dilday, resident artist-director of the County Art League, 1050 Washington St., has announced her retirement as director effective Oct.l. The League's treasurer, Anita Currier, was appointed by the board to take charge of activities in the interim before appointment of a new director. The officers and board of trustees of the league accepted Mrs. Dilday's resignation with regret. They noted the revitalization of the league since she took office, and the progress of the past few years, returning the league to its leading position in the arts in the County. THERE HAS been an increase in membership; there is an active schedule of summer art classes, a year-round series of pro-
grams and lectures; and an energetic board and group of committees have worked to improve the physical setup at the Carriage House and broaden the league's «cope of activities, while carrying on its traditional functions of mounting art exhibits and organizing the Annual Old House Tour of the county. This is actually Mrs. Dilday’s second retirement. She moved to Cape May in 1971 from New York City, where she had been a designer of decorative fabrics and wallpaper, and for 10 years did art work for Riverside-Church. BORN IN St. George’s, Me., Helen Clark Dilday studied at' the Portland School of Fine Arts, Portland, Me., and the Cleveland Art School. She was appointed resident director at the Art League EMT Refresher Currently certified New Jersey Emergency Medical Techicians are reminded that 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, there will be registration for the only refresher course that will be offered in Cape May County this year. in May, 1977 and is a past president of the organization. She will continue to reside in Cape May. The Art League was founded in 1929 to bring the arts to the county. At a dinner held in Woodbine that year, Samuel FJeisher of Philadelphia, founder of the Graphic Sketch Club there, discussed the need for such an organization with Freeholder and Mrs. Luther C. Ogden. IN THE EARLY years the group met in Court House and in 1960 Dr. Sidney Newcomer, then the' owne'r of the Physick Estate, offered them the Carriage House. This made it possible for the league to hold classes and have its own exhibition gallery ; and the apartment there was available for a resident director. Since the formation of the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts in 1970 to take over the Physick Mansion and its restoration and the management of the estate the two group have worked closely together whil pursuing their respective mis-
