Book Sale To Sept. 1
Additional Rental Aid CAPE MAY — The city’s Section 8 RentafAssistance Program has recently been revised to provide funding for additional families needing help in paying their rent for efficiency, me and two bedroom units. Program funds are provided by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the City's Public Housing Agency. ELIGIBILITY for the program is based on income set by HUD and tenants would not be required to pay more than 25 per cent of their gross annual income toward housing expenses. The plan requires that Cape May residents receive first priority over non-residents in being placed on the program but all families are welcome to apply. Those interested are asked to contact the Housing Agency in City Hall by calling 884-8411, extension 38.
CAPE MAY - A book sale for the benefit of this city’s public library will end on Wednesday. Sept. 1, Librarian Emma Elwell announced today. The sale will be conducted every day except
Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the basement of the City Hall which was the site of the library until it moved recently to newer and larger accommodations at Hughes and Ocean Streets. Mrs. Elwell said that about 2,000 books will be on sale at reasonable prices. They will include fiction, non-fiction, text and art books, some children’s books and magazines. They are discarded books still in readable condition, she said. The library began its book sales in 1973 and last year had its, most successful sale when it raised more than $1,000. With renewed interest in reading nation-wide, officials are hoping to surpass that figure at this year’s event. Volunteers will be at the old library in the basement of City Hall to assist purchasers. The library now is in the midst of a $150,000 fund drive for its new building. Several events have been scheduled to help the drive. One is an auction of paintings donated to the library by Freda Reiters, an internationally known artist. Bids (minimum $350) are currently being received for each painting at the library and will be opened on Tuesday.

She cited the hearings and what might be viewed as a potential conflict of interest as pointed out by the County Prosecutor's office as the reason for offering her resignation Her husband is Assistant Prosecutor Edgar Holmes
