OCEAN CITY - Two years ago this resort initiated the world’s first Miscellaneous Sun Tanning Tournament. The response from miscellaneous tanners was overwhelming. Tomorrow Thursday, Aug. 26, the city will present the event once again with scores of miscellaneous tanpers expected to vie for over $1,200 in prizes. A MISCELLANEOUS tanner is basically an in- .. dividual who does not normally have an opportunity to compete in a glamorous sun tanning tournament But with the variety of categories offered at’this competition, virtually anyone can compete. ' For instance, there’s the "Best Left Arm Tan" for the driver who never gets ‘ to the beach but is able to dangle a left arm from the car window. Then there’s the "Best T-Shirt Tan" which includes face, neck and arms only, Men are asked to bare their torsos to indicate contrast. Women will be taken to jail if they do so. OTHER UNUSUAL categories include "Best Tanned Back of Neck," ‘‘Most Evenly Tanned Calves and Underfeet’’ for New Mural Highlights An Old City CAPE MAV - The Top of the Marq Restaurant in the Marquis de Lafayette Inn now offers three splendid views of this Victorian City. A row of windows along one side of the dining room provides a clear view of the city. Another wall of windows provides a view of activity along the oceanfront. A CATHEDRAL-SIZED mural now occupying the far side of the restaurant shows those same scenes as they may have appeared in the 1880s. A horse-drawn trolley approaches the Iron * Fier while visitors in Victorian dress stroll along the wide beach with open parasols. Almost imperceptibly, a spotlight dims and the mural slowly changes until the daylight scene becomes a nighttime look at old Cape May. A fine mist rolls into the pier and a full moon slips through the clouds, illuminating the stately white columns of the Lafayette Hotel as it appeared in the 1800s.

the foot afficianados, “Palest Ring Finger,” "Whitest Knuckles" and "Designs" for weirdos who paste cut-outs on their bodies and then sit out in

the sun.

The “Golden Dome” Category for the best tanned bald head is a proven crowd pleaser as is the "Best-Under All Tan" or "Count Dracula Division" for the palest person. In a grudging bow to tradition, the tournament also offers

a "Best Over-All Tan" for those who truly believe there is something beautiful about baking one’s body to a crisp. THE CONTEST will be held at 1 p.m. in front of the City’s Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. It will be moved inside in the event of rain. Music is supplied during the festivities by Bill Bruestte and the Sunshine Boys," a banjo band. The tournament has an official an-

them dubbed the "Half Baked Miscellaneous Sun Tan Song." THE UNIQUE tanning bash has caused a stir among sun worshipers throughout the country and the city has received requests from as far away as California for guidance in running similar events for fun and publicity. The city has shared its expertise with these communities but reminds the world to accept no substitutes.

This year’s cash prizes and a windsurfer ar? being provided by Radio Station WAYV-FM 95. Atlantic City. Contest planners urge

everyone to enter. \‘Narcissists, ego maniacs and exhibitionists are welcome." says the official entry form.
