But Committeewoman Bieberbach blasted the arbitrator’s ruling as being "unfair to the township." She specifically attacked part of the decision requiring the township to pay full dental benefits not only to employees but also to their dependents. / "THIS IS GOING to be very costly to the township," the Commit-' teewoman charged, contending that now the same benefit will accrue to the other employee bargaining units — the Teamsters (public works) and office workers union. ‘ "I feel the arbitrator was not fair to the township,"

Bieberbach said. “I’m not speaking against any workers or individuals... I’m not speaking out against the police department. I’m not saying the police aren’t doing their job,” she added, emphasizing that her opposition is to dependents receiving full dental*coverage. She referred to this contract provision as "unreasonable." "THANK GOODNESS we stopped with a two-year contract.’.’ the Committeewoman went on, arguing that Lower Township taxpayers can’t afford being v Jiit with piore taxes to support additional increases in township ernployee salaries and beitefits. "We’re at the point whefe we have to stop somewhere," she exclainv'

Bieberbach asserted, claiming that employees want additional. benefits, but are unwilling to give up anything to the township in return. The two-year police contract, which township solicitor Jim Webb previously said is the first such agreement between the township and PBA in some time, runs from January 1982 to December 1983. COURT HOUSE - Democratic candidate for freeholder Jim lannone has critized his opposition's recent stand against the MUA. calling, it "Bandwagon Jumping because it is political popular." In a press release, Mr. lannone stated: "It's sad that it had to take a state investigation to motivate the authors of the MUA into taking a stand against it. Where were the Board of Freeholders, the Republican Party and their candidates, for the past 10 years. I seriously question the motivation for my opponent’s recent stand against the MUA. It may make some of us •wonder that'if an investigation had not taken place, would my opponent have elected to keep the status quo. "THAT HAS certainly been the practice in the past," lannone continued "In 1980 when the Board of Freeholders conveniently closed their eyes to what is now known as Manhaden Gate, the Demqpratic Party and their Freeholder candidates were warning the public and demanding that the county MUA get another appraisal on that property. "I am on record for the past four years as a champion for the people in questioning the practices of the MUA. The real answer to this problem is to break up the fraternity that exists in the courthouse and establish a two-party system in county government. My campaign theme is responsibility to the people of Cape May County. of land for $750,000 and on the same day re-sell that land to a public utility for $1.4 million. I think it is irresponsible to allow a public‘'utility to bully and badger a community through the courts (as it is in the case of Wildwood Crest) simply because that community is not receiving what they were promised by that utility. I think it is irresponsible to sit back for 10 years and watch a public utility get so out of , hand that it takes a state investigation to untangle the . mess," lannone concluded
