A spokesman said the company is expanding its overseas operations and while it has made large shipments out of other pofts, this is the first time an overseas shipment of this size has gone out of the Cape May port WORKMEN HAVE BEEN loading about 80 tons a day on the 185 ft. ship. The squid was caught about 80 miles at sea and sold to Lund’s by other fishermen. The Cape May area is said to be one of the best squid fishing regions in the world Squid is-a popular delicacy in Portugal and other Mediterranean countries.

N.J. Legion Convention Begins Thur.
WILDWOOD - The N.J. Dept, of the American Legion will open its annual three-day convention here tomorrow, Sept. 9, which includes a list of notables and concludes with a giant parade Saturday. The convention will be chaired by State Cmdr Margaret M. Malone of Hamilton Township, who recently became the highest ranking woman official in the 64-year history of the Legion when she was elected vice commahder of the national organization. FIRST CONVENTION session will start at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, with welcoming speeches being given by the mayors of Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest. Frank Lautenberg, Democratic candidate for the U S. Senate, is scheduled to speak at 9:35 a.m. Also scheduled to speak is Gov. Thomaa Kean, who has been, hospitalized With back problems in Nprth Jersey. Nomination of officers for the coming year will take place 11:30 a m. , * SPEAKERS AT Friday’s session will be Congressman Chris Smith, 9:15 a.m.; national Cmdr. Al Keller. 9:45 a.m. Congresswoman Millicent Fenwick, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, 10:15 a.m.; Sen Bradley, 10:55 a.m. Election of officers for next year and installation of department officers will follow. ACADEMIA — When the doors open to students at the county’s six secondary. schools today, educators will be cautiously optimistic that old nemesis, absenteeism, substantially will be locked out for the 1982-1983 school year. On the heels of a state ruling requiring every public high school to have anjittendance policy, absenteeism was edtdown considerably last year. Hopes are high among principals and teachers that atten-
dance will be even better this year, according to a survey made by this newspaper Most controversy over absenteeism occurred last year at Lower Cape May Regional High School, which has a popula lion of 1,080 students.
