located in Great Egg Harbor Bay near the Ixmgport Bridge off the north point of Ocean City. It pumps tons of sand from baj^ bottom onto Ocean City beaches to expand bathing areas and protect beachfront prbperty. Over 4 4 miles of pipe will.be used during the project, which will cover beaches from Momingsidc Rd. to 21st St. Only one beach block at a time is closed as the project progresses southward. This way tourist activity is not disrupted. BUT IF WHAT has happened already holds true this fall, there will be plenty of tourists at the bay and reclamation sites to see the "instant beach expansion." Boardwalks and beaches especially have been lined with spectators watching the steady spray of sand and water spew from pipes and add up to 240 ft. of new' beach to eroded areas. When ,the job is completed, over one million cubic yards of sand — an amount equivalent to 33,000 large dump trucks-full — will be pumped onto Ocean City beaches. The dredge acts like a huge vacuum cleaner sucking up sand from the bay bottom and pumping it across the bay through 30” pipes to the'north point beach. From there, the 7,000 horsepower engines of the dredge's pumping

They will be followed on the 10th by a South Jersey School of Baton Talent Show. Both attractions begin 8-p.m. and carry a small admission charge. On Saturday, the Siberian Husky Club of South Jersey will hold a show at the Piei 1 ,10 a.m. At 8:30 p.m., the Happy Hoofers ballroom dance club will initiate its season of monthly dances with the Mike Salerno Orchestra (admission). On September 12 the Ocean City "Pops" Orchestra will offer a special post-season concert with an expanded orchestra courtesy of the Atlantic City Musician's Union. Admission is free for the 8 p.m. event. Sept. 13, the Trinity Singers perform at the Pier (admission). The Senior Citizens Crafts Festival takes over September 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Doris Bellen, organist, will play at 8 p.m. on Sept. 16.

The group will parade its cars on the Boardwalk September 11 at 4:30 p.m. from 12th to Sixth Sts. Cars will be parked for inspecttion at the 5th St. Parking .Lot following the parade. A QUILT SHOW is scheduled Sept. 17 and 18 at the City’s Youth Center, 6th St. and Atlantic Ave. Quilts on display wifi be from local collections, some dating back over 100 years. As assertiveness training workshop for artists will be held at the Ocean City Art Center, September 25 from 9 to 5. Laurie Davidowitz, will direct the program..
