ly with the latest state and federal landfill regulations. THTE MAJOR areas of consideration in the report deal with the physical boundaries of the landfill, the results of hydrogeological testing of the land and groundwater, and the actual design of the liner,” noted Marturano. "However many other factors were studied before this preliminary design was determined environmentally secure.” The value of the report is two fold, according to George Maripakis. MUA executive oirector. • THE REPORT itself is a necessary item in determining a final landfill design that is environmen-

tally safe and economically feasible," Marinakis stated. "But equally important is that this report, when distributed throughout ’the County for inner agency review, will allow for a flow of informational .input that will be utilized before 4 a final design is accepted." • “This report marks the end of a phase of study and the beginning of a review period," said Ted O’Neill,, solid waste manager. THE REPORT will be reviewed by the County's Planning Board, Health Department. Engineering Department, Freeholders, Soil Conservation Service, Agricultural Extension Service, and the Solid

Waste Advisory Council. The mayors and councils of Woodbine and Upper Township, the site of MUA’s proposed landfill, will also be asked for their appraisal of the report. The MUA also commended the communities involved in the current weighing and composition study of solid waster. "We've received excellent cooperation frpm the communities ' in the weighing program," ■O’Neill reported. "Trucks are being weighed daily at four participating weighing

stations to help us determine the amounts of refuse coming out of the municipalities during these summer months." O'NEILL ALSO commended the people from the Jersey Cape Diagnostic Center for their participation in a sorting study being done at the County Recycl-

ing Center.

"Because of the type of county we are, we have more solid waste problems in the summer, but we also have more recycling opportunities," O'Neill stated.

FOLLOWING UP on the odor problem in Ocean City, the authority noted that an implementation schedule will be submitted to the State Department of Environmental Protection. "The installation of odor control equipment will begin as soon as possible at the 32nd St. pumping station, the 3rd St. pumping station and the 46th St. treatment plant," according to Charles^ Norkis,

chief engineer.

A REPORT on results of

the second Value Engineering Workshop on the wastewater treatment plant for the Seven Mile Beach^Middle Regim showed a potential saving , of $620,500 in construction costs through the implementation of recommendations made by the value engineering consul-

tant, Marinakis said. The MUA awarded a one-

year contract for hauling recyclable newsprint from the county to Garden State Paper Co. for reprocessing to National Freight Inc. of

Vineland.
