Old Town HaU Must Be Moved
WASHINGTON. DC. - The House Crime Subcom Ynittee, chaired by Congressman Bill Hughes (DNJ). has approved legislation making it a Federal of fensc to assault a cabinet member. Supreme Court justice, and certain other. High Federal officials. Although attacks on the President. Vice-President, and Members of Congress are currently prosecutable under Federal law. other , high officials are not similarly protected. • HUGHES CITED the wounding of Presidential Press Secretary James Brady, and the recent attack on Supreme Court Justice Byr°n White, as examples of why additional protections are necessary. "Federal officials arc often involved in highly visible and sometimes controversial activities,”
Hughes said, "and as a consequence may incur some risk to their personal safety. THE BILL would extend protection to cabinet secretaries, the second-ih-command in cabinet departments, the Director and Deputy Director of the CIA, Supreme CouM justices, and senior staff members in the office of the President and VicePresident. .Under an amendment offered by Hughes, the protection would also 'extend ’to nominees for Jthe cabinet, Supreme Court, and CIA Director. ^ The . bill. JB. 907. has already beeri^assed by the Senate. Hughes said he hoped to ready the measure for House consideration before the October adjournment target.
By Bob Shiles COLD SPRING - Although the Old Town Hall here on Seashore Rd. is’, eventually going to have to be moved to a neto home, the Township Committee last week made it clear that anyone acquiring the structure in the future will have to remove the building to a site in Lower Township and maintain it , for historical purposes. At its Sept. 13 meeting, the governing body unanimously passed a resolution authorizing the ‘building to be sold at public auction sometime in October. Those bidding on the structure will have to meet several provisions, including the requirement that the building be removed and maintained at a site within the township. municipality’s new maintenance garage is Dr. Jb-seph Salvatore. Salvatore, the orginator of Historic Cold . Spring Village, is an avid collector of Americana. His Cold Spring complex on Seashore Rd. consists of a number of historic structures that were moved to the village from their original sites. "He has a spot all picked out for the Hall,' ’ Clydesdale said Thursday. The resolution passed last week requires the successful bidder to remove the old building from its present site within one year of the auction date, and to level the foundation and clean-up any debris left from the project. He is also responsible for repairing the front of the ne\v maintenance building adjacent to the Old Town Hall and replacing any existing fencing. At a previous Township Committee work session Mayor Clydesdale said he'd be glad to give the hall to anyone who wanted the structure. He emphasized . the need for the site next to the maintenance building to be freed for future township use. "If we give it away for $1 or $2 it would be a benefit to the township because we need the ground,” he said. "It would cost more just to tear it down and take it to the dump." INJEA-PAC Nod For Hughes (YreNTON - The stale fcsociation representing /l 15,000 public school teachers and other school employees has endorsed Democrat William Hughes for Congress in the 2nd District. The New Jersey Educatidn Association Political Action Committee (NJEAPAC) endorsed the Ocean City legislator for the fifth consecutive time since Hughes first ran for Congress in 1974. NJEA-PAC President Edithe Fulton said an "Educators for Hughes” committee would be formed in the district to work for the re-election of the Congressman. Bradley Plug For lannone
