Dining Guide

IF YOU HAPPEN to be up at 3:45 a.m. tomorrow morning, keep a watch for the autumnal equinox. That’s when the sun crosses the celestial equator. Of course, we can’t advise you just what to be looking for when autumn begins. But you’ll know for yourself soon enough, as leaves change colors, then.fall to the ground, and the air takes on a refreshing crispness. A lot of people say autumn is just about their most favorite time of year. And there are others who say autumn just heralds the wintertime, which is not their most favorite time of year. Whatever you think about all this, there isn’t much we.can do about the seasons. Only, experience them., hot, cold, or somewhere in between. The first killing frost is due soon, and this will cut off the food supply of all the butterflies and many-of the birds that have spent the summer here. That's still a little ways off though. '4 According to country writer Haydn & Pearson, "For a brie/ period while cold legions are gatnoring on northern tundras, the katydids play their final so0. It is at once an a'u revoir to summer and a hail to autumn." What a nice way Haydn Pearson of expressing his thoughts about the season. * Now. here's some nice steppin' out things to do these autumn days: HERONS NEST HAS A SPECIAL MONDAY NIGHT BUFFET. Imagine, for just 99« (yes, that’s only ninetynine cents, 99c!) you can enjoy the half time Monday night buffet at the delightful Herons Nest,.at 7800 Dune Drive, Avalon, located opposite the Golden Inn. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon cocktails at'the Herons Nest. Tuesday & Thursday nights arc devoted to the ladies. Folk classical guitarist — Tom Emore — is on hand Friday and Saturday to entertain with his beautiful strummings. Also during September, the Herons Nest offers your choice of London Broil or Flounder Stuffed with Crabfiieat, during the candlelight dinner & music, with mixed green salad, vegetable DuJour, Baked or Rissole Potato and hot coffee, all for $5.95 per person. What a great value a great time! SING ALONG WEEKENDS AT KENNY'S. Henny’s, at 97th & Third Avenue, Stone Harbor is one of the county’s most popular dining spots, and no wonder why. The food is excellent, the service helpful dand friendly, and the atmosphere — relaxation plus! Now, on Friday and Saturday nights, you can enjoy the sing along with Buddy Murray and George Johnson, an added bonus for stopping at Henny’s. The dinner hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 5 to 10, and Sunday 3 to 10. The Businessmen’s Lunch is served Tuesday-Saturday 11:30 to 3; Sunday 12 to 3, and includes the popular salad bar. A LA CARTE-GREAT SIDEWALK DINING. Cape May's charming Washington Mall, with.its hustle-bustle and aide time atmosphere, is the setting for the charming A La Carte Restaurant, located at 301 Washington Mall. During these rustic autumn days, enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner right on the mall (or you can be served indoors-as well). There are nightly dinner specials that are well worth the visit alone. (The A La Carte is closed Wednesdays only.) Stop by for an autumn treat and pleasant interlude. You'll love the setting and the tasty food! AUTUMN DINNER AT THE WASHINGTON INN. There’s nothing that holds a candle to a gracious dinner in the historic Washington Inn, at 801 Washington St., Cape May. -—\ Dinner is served daily fron\5 p.m. in a most memorable atmosphere. Whilrf the evenings are still mild, you can even dine on a ^epeened jjorch overlooking an old-
