Fire Destroys Block of Stores In Wildwood

0*H#1 COLLISION BETWEEN a vehicle driven by Jame< Duke of Stone Harbor and a Middle Township police car resulted in injuries and damages. Patrolman Tim Moore and Duke were treated and released at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. Investigating Officer William Heavener attributed the Monday morning accident at Route 9 and Stone Harbor Boulevard. By Bob Shiles WILDWOOD - An early morning fire here Sunday blazed through a block of the boardwalk, totally destroying several shops. The fire was first reported about 8 a.m. and companies from Wildwood. North Wifdwood, West Wildwood. Wildwood Crest, Rio Grande and the Villas battled the blaze in an area west of the boardwalk between Lincoln and Schellenger Avenues. Among the shops destroyed were Lou’s Las Vegas. Marie's Department Store. Grandpa's Restaurant, Snow White's, and The Fun Shop. Damage was said to be in excess of fl million. County Detective Chief William Matthews, said Monday the cause of the .fire and its origin had not ) yet been determined. He

said officials were still sifting through the debris. WILDWOOD FIREFIGHTER Walter Larcombe received facial burns and was admitted to Burdette Memorial Hospital. Six other firemen, three each from Wildwood and North Wildwood, were treated at Burdette for smoke inhalation and were released. Crowds of firemen from throughout the state, visiting the city for the New Jersey State Firemen's Relief Association convention, watched as the local companies battled the inferno that sent up a cloud of black smoke visible for miles. Although occasional advice was offered by the visitors, they followed in ' structions issued when they arrived at the convention telling them not to get in-
