AVALON - David A Garrick, borough Directok of Public Works, has issued a notice to all plumbing contractors that a borough ordinance prohibits disconnecting water meters. Garrick points out that in the past, plumbers and homeowners have turned off their water at the meter, causing numerous problems Water service may be discontinued, Gar-

rick said, for molesting or tampering with any service pipe, curb stop, seal, water meter or other appliance of the water department. On request of the homeowner or agent, the water department will discontinue service to a property. A turn-off charge will be made for cutting off service, and a turn-on charge when service is restored.

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Environmental Research Foundation announced the publication of The NJ Citizen Hazardous Waste Network Directory. The directory contains the names, addresses and telephone numbers of ■dozens of ad hoc citizen gi oups that have sprung up in response to hazardous )vaste problems in New Jersey communities. In addition to citizen groups solely concerned with hazardous waste, the 42-page directory lists the statewide environmental organizations, watershed associations, labor, religious and women’s groups working on hazardous waste issues. THE 125 GROUPS listed

in the directory are concerned with 23 different hazardous waste issues such as landfills, water contamination, pesticides, siting hazardous waste treatment facilities, radioactive waste and ocean dumping (to name just a few). The directory is intended to help groups form networks to share information and to pool resources and talents. It is also for people who want to solve hazardous waste problems in their communities and are looking for nearby groups to work with. Mrs. Bertha Schubert, 2199 Ocean Drive Avalon, is chairing the fourth annual Benefit Cocktail Party given by the Sea Lions for the benefit of the Helen L. Diller Vacation Home for the. Blind. This festive event will take place Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Windrift 80th St. and the Beach in Avalon. Those of you who have attended these merry affairs know that the hors d’oevres are superb and so plenteous one can't eat dinner afterwards. Tickets are available at the door at $3.00 per person. This time the proceeds will go to meet a mortgage payment on the home. There will be an especially good orchestra so eat and dance your hearts out for a wonderful cause.
