.public schools have lost over $167 million in state aid Ao which they were entitlea under New Jersey law. Each year the ’legislature and governor have cut back; this year alone, to the tune of $83 million in funding which the school districts have expected and depended upon to balance their local budgets. "To make matters worse, each year the state informs us later of the loss, well after local budget development procedures and public input have been completed. This year the districts were actually informed of the final cutbacks after the close of the school year in June. “This situation cannot be tolerated. It is destroying the stability of public education in New Jersey,

limiting the educational opportunity available to our children and creating a crisis situation year after year. "We will campaign for the reinstatement of this year's funds and for full funding in the future. Furthermore, we will also insist that state leaders avoid these disruptive annual crises by providing us with firm information earlier in the local budget development process."
