C of C Hears Speakers From Local Boards
Cleanup Week Set
STONE HARBOR - Jim Fisher officiated for the first time as President of the Chamber of Commerce at the September dinner meeting at Hahn’s Restaurant. He presented four speakers who head or serve on Boards which strive to better the community. These officials are appointed by the mayor
and council.
Robert Wilson, chairman of the Board of Adjustment, spoke on the duties of the board. Members are appointed for four-year staggered terms and alternates serve two-year staggered terms. Alternates may vote only when a regular member is absent or a conflict of interest arises. The board is a local body of quasi-judicial status empowered by the State to subpoena documents and summon witnesses to testify under oath. It is controlled by the Municiple Land Use Act. Meetings are normally. - held the first Friday of every month. Notices are posted 20 days in advance at Borough Hall and published in two official
newspapers.
COUNCIL HAS 95 days from the date an appeal is filed to set a special meeting date at which only attorneys are heard. Notice is sent by registered mail to all persons within a 200-feet radius of the property in question. Meetings

through the County Health Department which investigates and reports back to the borough. Every other year, in conjunction with Avalon, they hold a rabies clinic; and they receive reports on the outbreak of any disease on the island. ROBERT VORHIS spoke on the areas of responsibility of a Planning Board such as subdivisions, maintaining the mastbr^lan, initiating zoninfLordinances which is their cmkf activity and maintaining an on- going planning program. They seek to y eliminate residential use in the business area and control density. Their ultimate hope is to provide a civic center for the community. Ted Pain spoke on the Amusement Licensing Board explaining that an applicant must fill out an information form setting forth hours of operation, qgture of business, past
convictions (if any), and character references. Police investigations may occur when deemed appropriate. They must also submit plans drawn up by an architect or licensed engineer and describe types of equipment to be used on the premises. It is the function of the board to decide if these data are in the best interests of the town and place restrictions where deemed necessary. The final speaker, Mary Coffee, described the duties of the Board of Assistance mandated by the State to provide monetary or medical assistance to anyone expressing a need for supplementary security income who is temporarily ineligible for any other kind of relief. Any person currently receiving food stamps is also eligible to apply to this agency of which Dr. Raymond Kin£ is Director.

To Reorganize Zipper Qub CHERRY HILL - The Zipper Club, a self-help, support group for those facing or recovering from open-heart surgery, will be holding a reorganizational meeting at 8 this evening. Sept. 29. at JFK Hospital here. In the past, those experiencing the stress associated with open-heart surgery have relied on the Zipper Club’s Philadelphia Chapter, which has helped over 1,000 people in the Philadelphia area.
