Middle'T&reezes To 31-6 Win Over Wildwood
By Jacob Schaad Jr. WILDWOOD - Awesome Middle Township propped for its showdown battle with arch rival Lower Cape May Regional next Saturday by breezing through a 31-6 victory over outmanned Wildwood High last Saturday. Unlike a week ago when it took the offense and defense a while to jell, the two units got their act together early Saturday and were never threatened. Rich Rhinesmith, who stored 20 points in the opening season win over Buena, scored three more TDs to bring hjs two game total to 38 points. Quarterback Tom Gihorski scored a fourth touchdown on a one yard run and scatback Mitch Nichols capped the point producing with a 22 yard scamp into the end zone. Fullback Roland Turner tallied the only Wildwood touchdown on a 44 yard run in the fourth quarter. It was the first score against the Panthers this season. •THfe TEAM PLAYED very well today," Middle Township Coach Phil Exley commented after the game. "Although this is only our second game, the defense played like it hafd the experience of five games already." The defense again held the opposition to minus yards rushing and sacked the Wildwood quarterbacks eight times. Wildwood signal called Billy Osborn, who saw more of the opposition than he did of his own players, had to leave the game in the fourth quarter with an injury. The Middle Township offense, stalled for awhile last week, didn't fool around this week. The first time it got its hands on the
ball it scored in four plays on a drive thatbegan on the Wildwood 40. Gihorski was the key, taking the ball over from the one after rolling out for a 36 yarder three plays early. Guard Havey Tozer, who later suffered a shoulder injury and ‘ missed the second half,
disaster. His team down by 13 and facing a fourth a*nd three on its own 39, coach Ben Bachman elected to go foi^ the yardage instead of the punt and it worked as Osborn connected on a 12 yard pass to Daryl Diggs. Two plays later the same combination connected on

On the next play Osborn
was sacked back on the 35 , and on the one after that defensive end Frank Brown shook the ball loose from Osborne. Rhinesmith, playing at the linebacker spot, picked it up and ran 45 yards for what proved to be the game clinching touchdown. Wildwood gained some solace in the fourth quarter when, after gaining possession on its own 38, it moved on three plays to the Middle n
Township 44 from which point Turner tallied a touchdown as he eluded a horde of would be tacklers who seemed to have him in their grasp. Tozer set out the second half with his arm in a sling, but Coach Exley said none of his team’s injuries were serious. He described them as "bumps and bruises."
